Ren Posted August 21, 2008 Posted August 21, 2008 Dear Forum, (first time trying to get a picture up, so here goes...) Please excuse the pictures of non-Gibson guitars but I like this picture as it puts the Les Paul into context with the other guitars that have been (mainly) responsible for all the music we love - the Fender Strat, the Martin D-28 and of course the Les Paul. I'm guessing that some metal-heads might take issue with this...
daveinspain Posted August 21, 2008 Posted August 21, 2008 Hmm... maybe there should be a SG there too...
Ren Posted August 21, 2008 Author Posted August 21, 2008 Yeh, I thought as I postedthat many might take issue, and I'm sorry, I certainly don't want to offend anybody. Maybe I should have re-worded 'Three guitars of my time'.... Still it's cool that it makes one think of other guitars that have been seminal as you just showed. cheers
NeoConMan Posted August 21, 2008 Posted August 21, 2008 Very cool! Just a few years ago I could have gone you one better than that pic. My Strat and Les Paul - VERY similar to yours - were flanking an old D-35 that I sold in 2002. Add Marshall and Fender amplification.... See avatar < - - - - - -
Aaresz Posted August 21, 2008 Posted August 21, 2008 I think you just wanted to show off your nice guitars! As for the referance of "our time". This is highly subjective depending on age, for anyone around in the 60's Rickenbacker played a major roll in rock music.
MikeRom Posted August 21, 2008 Posted August 21, 2008 Yeh' date=' I thought as I postedthat many might take issue, and I'm sorry, I certainly don't want to offend anybody. You didn't say - the ONLY 3 guitars of our time that matter - just, here's 3 guitars of our time. And you're right. Nice crew ya got there too
surfpup Posted August 21, 2008 Posted August 21, 2008 Those three certainly cover a lot of ground! While there are other great guitars, you can't deny the importance of those three. In fact if I were told I could keep only three guitars it would be an LP, a Strat and an acoustic. Nice little family ya got there.
ChanMan Posted August 21, 2008 Posted August 21, 2008 Can't argue with Fender and Gibson. Certainly highly influential guitars! Nice pic, and good thinking, Ren!
Thundergod Posted August 21, 2008 Posted August 21, 2008 Fine set of instruments man... congratulations, I think you could use a tele but thats it... you have a perfect set.
surfpup Posted August 21, 2008 Posted August 21, 2008 I agree, a Tele would be the fourth. Not just my fourth, but fourth in terms of it's importance to the guitar music I have enjoyed over the years.
GavinGuitar Posted August 21, 2008 Posted August 21, 2008 Nice collection. Those 3 guitars have certainly been used to create a lot of the music we all love.
Ren Posted August 21, 2008 Author Posted August 21, 2008 Fine set of instruments man... congratulations' date=' I think you could use a tele but thats it... you have a perfect set.[/quote'] Yeh of course, the tele. Never actually played one - maybe I would like one - oh no................. :)
tonebias Posted August 21, 2008 Posted August 21, 2008 These are the three guitars that started trends... Plus, these are fine examples of them, nice guitars....
Thundergod Posted August 21, 2008 Posted August 21, 2008 Yeh of course' date=' the tele. Never actually played one - maybe I would like one - oh no................. Is that GAS building up?
bobv Posted August 22, 2008 Posted August 22, 2008 Nice shot. I agree with the choices. Love is never having to explain why you "need" another guitar. But you could easily justify adding a Tele and an ES-335, maybe an L5, an old Gretsch or D'Angelico archtop, couple of basses, a banjo, a resonator.... Sorry, I drifted off there for a sec.
Silverbursted Posted August 22, 2008 Posted August 22, 2008 Nice looking trio. Opinion time...What is the best acoustic?
MikeRom Posted August 22, 2008 Posted August 22, 2008 Nice looking trio.Opinion time...What is the best acoustic? Probably more subjective than for even an electric guitar. Salesmen told me once that not only should you check it out by playing it yourself but you should then stand back and have someone else play it, see it it sounds they way you want it to.
NeoConMan Posted August 22, 2008 Posted August 22, 2008 D-28 was used widely, much more than the D-35. In decades past, there were few acoustics to compare to them at all.
