SG colors

For a time Gibson produced some SG Specials that were Limited Editions. Once of which was a dark purple color, officially called 'Plum'.

Not sure how many were produced.

I've also occasionally seen some on eBay, but unless I'm totally senile I seem to remember some 'brighter' purples as well. Not sure if they're one-offs or what.

Your best bet would be to contact Gibson Customer Service for more info, they could tell you much more I'm sure.

If you're looking for one, good luck, I'm sure one will turn up eventually.

anyone know what a used one might go for these days?

Average prices for SG Specials secondhand are between $450 and $750.

A 'rare' color won't necessarily go for more' date=' with Gibson 'off-production' or limited models usually will only fetch and be worth as much as the buyer is willing to pay.

Again, good luck with your search, and you can find out a lot of info just by browsing eBay.

Some other good links for you to search might be:

GBase.com

and

used.GuitarCenter.com

Good luck, if you have any more questions let us know. But keep in mind you can find out just about anything instantly with a few clicks and Google.

My first SG was a Special in Plum. Very sexy color. It was dark purple that almost looked black from a distance. Sold it when I got my current Special since the Plum one was too light for my taste. And my current Special has an ebony fretboard.
