tepidy Posted August 22, 2008 Posted August 22, 2008 Wanted to thank everyone for fantastic advise on swapping the caps in my 1980 LP from the original ceramic caps to unused 1959 bumblebee's. Well worth it. The swap was clean and looks awesome and the tone is unbelievable!!!!!!
Tom99SS Posted August 22, 2008 Posted August 22, 2008 Glad it worked out for you. How does the tone compare? My personnal experience was that the ceramic caps sounded to high end and a little transistorized (maybe that is why Gibson switched to 300k volume pots, just my guess). Even with the 500K pots I replaced the originals with, the bumblebee caps really warmed upped the sound and gave it a more fuller rounded sound.
tepidy Posted August 22, 2008 Author Posted August 22, 2008 hi Tom99SS . Gave the tone a lot more depth-Huge improvement over ceramics
surfpup Posted August 22, 2008 Posted August 22, 2008 Thanks for giving us an update, tepidy. This is definitely on my list of projects. I just need to decide which guitar to try first!
DoubleSixx Posted August 22, 2008 Posted August 22, 2008 Yeah I don't think most people know there's a hidden treasure of tone in there Les Paul.
