retrorod
I live in Bozeman Mt. Why? Home of Gibson Acoustic Guitars. Home of Weber Mandolin. Home of Kopp Guitars. Home of Waverly Tuners.Home of Music Villa. Home of Larry Dimarzio. Former home of John Walker Guitars. Home of Ren Ferguson. Bozeman is a short 1 hour scenic drive to Yellowstone National Park as well as a very short hop to Big Sky and Bridger Bowl the two premier skiing areas in the country. Bozeman sits nestled in the beautiful Rocky Mountains and is surrounded by 5 blue-ribbon trout streams. Things to do? Ski,Fish,Hike,Audit Christopher Parkening's masters class in the summer. Oh, you know, Stop by Music Villa and see who's hanging out for the afternoon. It's nothing to sit in the custom guitar room and chat with Kevin Kopp or Bruce Weber or Larry Dimarzio. Several of the guys from Gibson stop by on occasion and Larry Barnwell, the Martin rep for the Northwest, also lives in Bozeman. He brings all of the cool Martin folks to Bozeman for a little R&R. They like to come out and attend the Grand Targhee Music festivals that Martin helps sponsor. I've been lucky enough to have met Martin's custom shop manager as well as their machine Shop manager and their National Sales manager. They are great folks and Music Villa has a lot of their custom shop guitars as well as regular guitars available to play. Yes Music Villa is Gibson Montana's showroom so they have all the Gibson acoustics as well. Bozeman is a small college town that is Bicycle friendly and it's easy to go the whole summer without starting your car. There are many single track mountain trails to bike on and they are all just a mile or two from my house in town. If you get a chance, participate in the Gibson Homecoming it's a great way to tour the Gibson plant and see everything for yourself. Last year the group got to tour Weber, Gibson, and Waverly. The Waverly tour was guided by Bill McDonald. He's the McDonald of Stewart McDonald. Yes Bill lives in Bozeman as well. How cool is that? Bruce Weber gave the tour of Weber Mandolin. He's a great guy and will build you a custom mandolin. So come out this summer and maybe I will see you at Music Villa. Just ask for Hogeye. Hogeye, you ol' "name-dropper" you. If I ever get to Bozeman, I,m gonna look you up! Then I,ll pretty much know everybody.... Seriously though, I,m sure its beautifull. I am not much for cold weather or winter sports but if I lived there, it would be tolerable if I was employed by the Gibson factory. Rod

nodehopper
Forget about Montana being Gibson country, looks like that mantle has shifted to N. Carolina......... Hey....I would say the Sierra Motherlode area is definitely Gibson Country. And up here in the mountains we ain't like those crazy fruit and nut tofu eating San Francisco Bay Area folks Here in the foothills the men are men and the livestock runs scared! We got Tennroots, pschaafs, Ol Fred, Myself and Onewilyfool visits once in a while. I mean I don't want to say anything bad about N. Carolina. I have been there and the state is beautiful, but why is it every time some Yokel named Jeb or Cletus is abducted by a UFO they always seem to be from N. Carolina ? I would just hate to give everyone the idea that all Gibson players look like this guy !!

BT Bob
Another one from across "the pond" - I live in Cardiff, capital city of Wales (for those who are unaware, it's the small bit to the left of England on the maps). Home to the Millennium Stadium, Cardiff Blues (rugby union), Cardiff City (football/soccer), Cardiff Devils (ice hockey), Glamorgan (cricket), Dave Edmunds, Andy Fairweather Lowe, Dame Shirley Bassey, Ryan Giggs (the second-best footballer of the 20th Century) and about 10 miles from Tom Jones' home town! Also home to Brains Beers. We have friends who live in Dade City, Fl - about 45mins from Tampa - and hope to visit them at the end of June. They also have a place in North Carolina, about 10 miles from Asheville, and we're hoping to be there with them for July 4th (so does that qualify????). We were intending to make the only "guitar-related" part of that trip a brief detour to Rugby, Virginia, to try to find Wayne Henderson's place - but it looks like the whole trip will now become a kind of Gibson pilgrimage. Who'd have thought????

Who'd have thought???? My nearly 18-yr old daughter visited Cardiff several years ago and will be applying for a post-grad (high school) year abroad, where she hopes and prays she will be (a) chosen for the program and ( b ) spending the year in Cardiff (can't remember the name of the school.) She's been known to pronounce that station of yours... Anyway, we live in Asheville and may well be here for the Fourth -- make a note in your travel planner; it would be lovely to meet up. Duende
New Hampshire, here, although I can also claim membership in the "once lived in North Carolina" club. Hi Tom My best friend Logan lives in New Hampshire. We stayed with him in 2008 and it was my first and only visit to that area of America. I enjoyed it very much! (Also, I know a great Weds open mic location... you could borrow my J-100xtra... ) Anne - IF she gets chosen and gets to come to Cardiff, if you want any information, please don't hesitate to get in touch. I have 2 daughters still living here (20 & 23) so between us we can probably answer most questions (my youngest is in University here, so she'll know the best places to go for a good night out - which will be high on your daughter's "to-do" list, I imagine, as the drinking age is "only" 18 here - not the 21 it is in the US. And bear in mind my daughter & her friends' idea of a night out doesn't start until about 10.30, but they're usually home by 3AM!!!). By "that station of yours", I assume you mean "Llanfairpwllgwyngyllgogerychwyrndrobwllllantysiliogogogoch"? It's in the North of Wales - quite a way from us down south! I believe it translates as something like: "The church of St. Mary in the hollow of white hazel trees near the rapid whirlpool by St. Tysilio's of the red cave". If our trip goes ahead (hunting for the best flight price at the moment and hoping for under £500), I'll be sure to get in touch with dates. We're really keen as we've heard the people of Asheville have a great time celebrating July 4th (I'm sure the rest of the USA do too). Last year we went down through the Keys and had THE best time... DAS44
Lark Street Music in Teaneck, NJ is about the nicest place around here for Vintage. Got my Guild there, after Steve's wise advice. Anyone who looks in will not be disappointed. I love that guitar. I'm up North of Boston.

57classic
Just south of Boston, home to the rabble rousers who started The Revolution (said with pride). A great area that offers just about anything you could want, that's why it's known as the hub. Taxes are high and crazy politics but you have to appreciate the positives, I haven't found anyplace that's perfect yet.

devellis
I grew up in the Boston area, although I've been down here in NC for the past 32 years or so. I manage to get to Boston a couple of times a year. The Music Emporium in Lexington is still my favorite music shop (although no new Gibsons to be found, unfortunately). I bought a Taylor 814ce at the Emporium about 10 years ago. I sold it last summer and got a SWD Studio cutaway to replace it. They have some really beautiful instruments there-so many of the ones you see advertised in the back of Acoustic Guitar mag.

Duende
I love the international make up of our little forum I wish it was more diverse. Aside from the obvious American membership (not surprising given the companies heritage and the countries population) there seems to be few British guys and the odd Aussie :( I know there are others, but I wish there was a greater diversity.
