Murph
I threw out the last few I had coming home from a New Years gig three years ago. Yep, littered em' all over the hwy...... Jan. 1, '08 the Illinois "can't smoke in a bar" law took effect. I took it personal. Camel filters were $25.00 a carton at the time. A good part of that was Illinois State taxes. The State is now BROKE. Go figure......

Illinois, like California, just can't seem to figure that if you tax someone's cigarets, booze, or what ever, that eventually there's a backlash. You're free from the chains of addiction and the obligation to help fund a corrupt and inept state government. Next they'll tax the air you breath. Andy R
You should all be proud. I hope to someday be able to be smoke free. 2 packs a day for about the last 27 years....
jannusguy2
Congrats, Murph. I went from 2 packs a day to nothing 15 months ago. I think I'm finished.

Andy, there's some truth in there if you look close enough. Keep up the 2 packs a day and one day you will be smoke free. Hopefully it's because you quit and can take a breath of fresh air. Not because you're incapable of taking a breath of fresh air. Good luck with that. I watched my mother smoke for probably 35 years. She's been smoke free now the last 20. I can go years without having a beer but can't go without the smokes for very long... I hate it. I hate myself for not being able to stop something I hate, that I know is bad for me, that is a stupid waste of money, that makes me smell, that is shortening my life.... Still no go?... I could never get the Turkeys lit and they tended to smoke and drip grease when you did so I gave them up years ago.
Murph
I still have urges to smoke. I used Nicorette gum when I was drinking, (which was always until 10 months ago), to help me. Now that I don't drink I never even think about a cigarette. Weird, I found a few Nicorettes in my truck and they were GOOD........
badbluesplayer
Congrats Murph for your success. And congrats to everybody who tries to quit. That's the first step. I quit almost 20 years ago and I used the patch. It was a lot easier than when I tried cold turkey.
jannusguy2
Tried all the meds, gums, lozenges, inhalers, .... I used 3 things to stop. 1st, my motivation was money. smokes went to $6 a pack and at 2 packs a day I was pissing away 4300.00 annually. Considering I had quit my gig, that was a logical place to begin saving $. The other 2 things were nicotine patches and xanax. I told my girlfriend we weren't going to see each other for at least a month (she was trying to quit too and succeeded) and I hunkered down determined to stop. 6 weeks later I was finished with it. Did not smoke during the 6 weeks nor have I since. It can be done. Bonus side effect, 3 new guitars added with the funds I was previously burning up. They were $25.00 a carton when I quit, but over $3.00 a pack single, and a carton wouldn't last me a week, so I put $40.00 a week CASH in a drawer and my motivation (besides being p1ssed at the State) was a new ES-339. It's in my sig.....
