or are the special edition RANDY SKRUGGS a better way to go???

Couldn't find much info on Gibson's site about the standard Advanced Jumbo..

Would love to hear from you... I'm new to Gibson, and to this website...

Having spent the last 10 years surrounded by Martin acoustics, I'm learning a lot...

Looks pretty good, but for the world i would never buy a Gibson acoustic unplayed, especially after my experience playing 6 of them today. Amazing how good and how bad they can sound unfortunately.

If you're a bluegrasser then the AJ is a good one to be looking at. The Advanced Jumbo is not a regular production model, so it's not featured on the Gibson website. BUT, the factory in Bozeman seems to continue building limited numbers of AJs throughout the year. Stay in communication with your local authorized Gibson dealer if you want to purchase a new one.

I recently purchased a 2007 Custom Shop AJ (called AJ Supreme). It has an adirondack top and madagascar rosewood back and sides. I had been looking for an AJ for a while when this opportunity came up. I took a chance and bought it without playing first. I am extremely happy with this guitar. It is really loud and the notes have great clarity and separation. My guitar has a repaired headstock crack, and I paid $1850 for it. The crack is repaired very, very well, and when I first got the guitar I couldn't find the repair. It was risky, but I think I got a LOT of guitar for the money.

I have never had the chance to try the "standard" AJ with sitka top and East Indian rosewood back and sides, but I'm sure thery are great instruments too. I also know Wildwood Guitars sell a custom version with adirondack top, if you are interested in that.

By the way, I am really a Martin guy, but my recent "detour" into Gibsons has been very rewarding :-)
