Joe B Posted January 3, 2011 Posted January 3, 2011 Thanks to all who have helped answer some questions here. My famous last questions: From my online research, the volume and tones potentiometers seem to have different part numbers. What is the difference and where can I find replacement parts if I need them? Mine are very stiff and hard to turn. They could use replacement or restoration. Any tips on that?
retrorod Posted January 3, 2011 Posted January 3, 2011 JoeB, Have you dropped the wiring harness from the guitar yet? With all due respect, I feel that you need to take the guitar to a 'competant' repair person and get the dang thing fixed. If you don,t know what and how to get the pots that you need....I really don,t think you will be able to install them even if I told you what and where to get them! Have you followed the previous advice? If so, we haven,t heard any 'results'? My main concern is that you will 'unnecessarily' screw up a nice vintage guitar by trying to 'learn' something on it. Which, 'by the way' drives me crazy... Again...with all due respect, Rod
Joe B Posted January 3, 2011 Author Posted January 3, 2011 Thanks for the advice. I took it to Steve Grimes www.grimesguitars.com. Just looking to get more info to supply him with. He's a master! L5Larry Posted January 4, 2011 Posted January 4, 2011 Most likely all you need to do is "clean and lubricate" your pots. Find a Radio Shack or other electronics store and buy some Control/Contact Cleaner & Lubricant (Radio Shack Product #64-4315), follow the directions, and your problem should be solved.
retrorod Posted January 4, 2011 Posted January 4, 2011 Yep Larry, I should have just said that . But...I got him confused with another guy with 'frozen pots' on the vintage guitar section of this Forum, in which that was already suggested....My Bad! But then again 'clean and lubricate' your pots may need further clarification for the 'unintiated' . After all, this IS the acoustic part of the forum. Being into vintage guitars, I have seen a lot of dumb and unecessary and substandard things done to an otherwise fine original guitar! It makes me cringe
Joe B Posted January 4, 2011 Author Posted January 4, 2011 I spoke with Rick at Doctor Vintage and he gave me this amazing info: http://www.doctorvintage.com/electrics/gib_electricals.html Thanks everyone
