Geff
The origianl post was some time ago now but I have just picked up a new 175 and I am excited about it! In my opinion the 175 does ok as an acoustic by itself but not in company. So if you are looking for something to play at home as an acoustic but through an amp in public, it would be a reasonable compromise. I originally went out to buy an electro-acoustic precisely as a "compromise" and ended up buying the 175 instead. My only criticism is a slightly "bright" sound at the expense of power in the lows. Try some D'Addario flat-wounds on that 175, they tend to be less bright, plus no string noise. I use D'Addario 11s but hard core jazzers use 12s and 13s which are louder unplugged.
