Gibson has a new Nighthawk out....This is an Epi re-issue of a Gibby....Very well made; I'm getting one, although I dislike veneer tops.....

With the epi pickups? I don't think so.

You be surprised how well epi has progressed.

Even with the good pups on the gibson, you would most likely get a better tone out of the epi.

Yes dem00n, you are correct....Most Epis are wonderful guitars....I prefer my LPs Gibby, but my Epi LPs are very nice; in fact, I tried out Gibby's white LP studio, Epi's white LP studio, and the Epi blew away the Gibby.....The Epi Nighthawks are going to be INCREDIBLE guitars, and the price ??? Awesome...I just dislike veneer tops...And there will be upgradable pickups, so.......

As far as Gibson using poplar for their Nighthawks, they must have a reason to, but, I'm still scratching my head over that decision........I have an Epi Riviera P-3 coming tomorrow, and apparently an old old Epi coming soon as well......Epis are overlooked as guitars IMHO....................................

.

Epi's should be looked at on an individual basis, just like any other musical instrument.

I find statements like "Made of $hit in a $hit country" disturbing.

Its made with horrible wood though, you would get a better tone out of the Epi, i mean sure the gibsons nice and everything.

I really doubt that the Epi would have a better tone...Even if the Gibson has some poplar in it, it does have a very nice quilted maple top and its not a veneer or has below average-average pups...I'm really curious about the Gibson NightHawk but like you stated the poplar is holding me back..

Why?

It's pointless to explain this to someone who has been previously spanked for this before.

But . . . . your opinion is valid; but it could be stated in less derogatory way.

Turns out that week in the woodshed didn't do much good.

Hey, some just don't get, or like Asian guitars, Epi or otherwise.

It's ok...that's their individual right. I don't always agree, as

I own some terrific "Asian" Epi's, as well as a couple of US vintage

versions, too. ALL of my Epi's (Asian or US) had better fret work,

and setups, than ANY of my Gibson's, initially, out of the box, etc.

The exception to that, was the last '50's Tribute LP Studio. It has

great (pleked) frets, and had an awesome setup, "out of the box!"

So, I would never make a general statement, on any Epi or Gibson

guitar, across the board. They're all individual, and both companies,

produce excellent instruments, even regardless of price point, quite often.

IMHO, and experience. Other's may vary.

Actually, you stated it as fact............. Tman5293, you stated it as fact......not as an opinion.......When I say to you, please understand the difference, I mean, please understand the difference.......

You stated that, well you know how you stated it..and if you don't, then well, all I gotta say to you is @$#% (*^&$%!!!.......

This is also NOT your sandbox....Chinese people are good people, and many great guitars are made in China.....

Play nice in sandboxes that do not belong to you.....Your clothing is in part made over there, is it *** ????

Does that bug you ??? Do you own an Epiphone ????? Where are the guitars that you own made ??

Your amps ??? Your i-pod ??? Is the computer you post from made in the USA ??? Is it **** ??

I love the Chinese people, because they are good people, and they aren't ****..They rock...

My grandkids have more common sense than you, and are better musicians as well.....

But / and.........that is my sole and true opinion......subject to true opinion......................

I'm not terribly interested in either, but I would never dish out that kind of money for a guitar with a poplar body. That's like the cheapest tone wood you can buy. My niece's Squire is poplar.

Agree on both points. There are some really great epis (and guitars made by other asian brands too). You just have to play them with an open mind and find one you like, I have owned some great epiphones, my G400 faded/vintage (that I regret selling) was a great guitar (for less than 300 bucks too!), didn't need to set her up after getting her out of the box, she sounded great (even with the stock pickups) and as much as it will hurt some it was better than the Gibson SG standard I got in exchange (which I kept for 2 weeks and upgraded to a les paul).

And yes, that statement is disturbing.

I regret selling my Epiphone Dot...such a FANTASTIC guitar for the 300$ I spent...I dont really regret selling it, because I got my Gibson Flying V out of it...but it played GREAT and Charlie Brown was right that the frets were surprisingly perfect...I will defintley pick up another one in the future..but obviously my Gibbys did have a better tone and sound, especially overdriven..but for the price Epi's are hard to beat.

I have some serious GAS for this since I saw the Gibson Nighthawk, and the Epi Custom Reissue version seems right up my alley in terms of what I'd want it for.

The body is mahogany, and the fretboard is ebony I'm pretty sure. I've already called my local music shop to see if they're getting them, when and how much.

uh oh, In the dog house now about not "needing another guitar". While she is right, it doesn't make me want it any less. I'll keep you guys posted.

She would not dare question the will of Artillery Owl. Brandon on the other hand.....

The topic is the Epi reissue. The specs you're talking about are for the Gibson reissue.

From Gibson/Epi website - http://www2.gibson.com/Products/Electric-Guitars/Designer/Epiphone/Nighthawk-Custom-Reissue/Features.aspx

The body of each Nighthawk Custom Reissue is crafted from solid mahogany, and capped with a stunning Grade-AAA flamed maple veneer.

The neck of the Nighthawk Custom Reissue is constructed from solid mahogany.

The neck of the Nighthawk Custom Reissue carries a bound ebony fingerboard, long considered an "upgrade" on Epiphone guitars.
