Just wondering whether or not this Epi Black Beauty custom is fake.

Hi Slappywag, welcome to the forums.

I'm not familiar enough with this model to pass judgement, however, judging by the remarks and praise others have left as feedback he seems to be a trusworthy guy. I'll leave the model id to others better qualified to do so.

Slappy, I just eyeballed it against my own BB3 and 'cept for the Bigsby (and the fact that this one looks to be in better shape than the one I picked up) it sure looks to be the real deal.

By the way, did you see the '66 Framus Strato the same seller is showing? DROOL!

Sorry, it looks fake to me [thumbdn]

It is hard to believe, where this guitar was hidden since 2003 - he claims it to be new!

What is the regular price of a BB3 in Australia ? This price is less than "too good to be true", don't you think ? :-k

I've never seen legit Epis where the tuner-washers overlap the binding.... [-(

It looks pretty legit to me and that appears to be his starting bid price.

Also couldn't see where it says 2003 on the eBay page......the serial number indicates it's a 2010 model.

However, the fact that he is selling a brand new model so soon after purchase needs looking in to as he could have been stung by an eBay faker and wants to get rid of it. If he can provide evidence of its authenticity via a bill of sale from an authorised Epi dealer then that would wrap it up.

I can't quite bring myself to say fake but certainly "suspect".

Pickguard screw still looks a little off.

Headstock looks a little tall and/or epi logo is too far from top of headstock.

Angle of Epiphone on headstock looks a little off.

E tuners look either a little low or TRC is a bit too tall.

Washers seem a bit large coming very close or covering part of diamond and binding on E,B,G side of headstock.

Compare:

Some of this could be due to pic angle, but still suspect to me.

Think I would send link to Gibson with inquiry before bidding.

Edit: I was writing this while Pete.R was writing his. Seems we came up with a lot of the same conclusions.

I messaged him and he said he got it off eBay.

Let's "pretend" it is legit for a minute.

1.Someone got it from a legit dealer.

2.Sold it to this guy on ebay.

3.He is reselling it on ebay.

That's three times sold in one year.

That is one unlucky guitar!!!

Just had a look at the Framus, at the bottom of that listing he says "No test runs but pick up could be arranged.". That seems very strange to me, it's ok to go too his place after you/ve paid the coin, but not before.

LOL,@ Peter!

I agree, though. Looks suspicious to me. The Tuner washers and headstock length are what caught my eye. Way too tall. Not to mention that the diamond inlay is totally crooked.

Someone ask him if its authentic and see if he loses his temper. Thats usually a dead give away.

Interesting - I sent a message to the seller via eBay, and basically accused him of selling a counterfeit. His reaction was to remove the listing.

That says a lot right there......................

Wow.........Can't the powers that be stop this stuff ??? I'm reffering to fakes being sold on e-bay in the first place..How can fakes be stopped from being made....or can this be done ???

In a perfect world, probably, in reality, I doubt it very much. How is this kind of thing supposed to be policed, if eBay had specialist staff trying to stop fakes being listed then their fees would be even more astronomical than they are now, also guitars aren't the only thing being faked, almost any item is open to this kind of abuse.

Now where did I leave my crystal ball..............

It's not good that he knew about this already (his new listing says a dealer told him). Perhaps he needs asking why he didn't 'fess up' in the first place.

Aussie forumites, why not have yourselves some fun with this guy by posting that up as a question every time he relists it.
