Gilliangirl
My friend just gave me a GPS/mp3 player unit and I'm just trying to figure it out now. It has a chord on it that plugs into the 12-volt thing. The question is, am I supposed to unplug it every time I turn off the truck? Does it drain power from the battery if I don't? Typical guitar player! That should have read 'cord'
Tman5293
It should not drain the battery. You could unplug it if you want to but I doubt you'll have any problems if you leave it plugged in.
Artie Owl
The amount of power a small unit like that would drain shouldn't impact your car battery that negatively. If it indicates that it's charging even while the truck is off then you may want to consider unplugging it when you're not using it. Typically the 12v port typically shuts off when the car turns off, so it should be fine.
Rocky4
No, you can leave it plugged, but you might not want to leave it in the vehicle unless you want it stolen.
Riffster
No, you can leave it plugged, but you might not want to leave it in the vehicle unless you want it stolen. Not sure Calgary has a high crime rate but it is always better safe than sorry.
DanvillRob
We call our GPS "Brunhilda" and sometimes we call her "Frau Blucher", and she gets mad if I don't go the way she wants me to....OR if I even stop for gas! (and I leave her plugged in ALL THE TIME!)

LOL Frau Blucher (insert horses whinnying) Thanks guys. I can't imagine anyone wanting to steal it as it's not worth that much. I have seen several cars with them stuck to their windows so obviously some people trust they won't be stolen. Calgary's crime rate seems bad to me, but probably compared to other cities it's minor. There's a whole lot of money in Calgary and everyone seems to be living pretty big. My modest little GPS from Canadian Tire wouldn't be high on the priority list I think. Jeff-7
Mine stays plugged into my car year round, hot or cold, days on end without starting the car. No effect on the battery, kicks right over. You're safe GG.
Surveyor
Worth has nothing to do with it; some people will steal something just because it is there. Mine stays plugged in 24/7/365 as well.

Isn't that the truth, had someone break the window out of my truck to get in and steal my cd player. The window cost more to replace than the darn cd player
