Silenced Fred
So I spent about two hours today at Guitar Center tooling around on some basses, and I realized I really do enjoy them, just never got the sound I wanted from the Ibanez that I traded away. Any recommendations on basses to try out? medium priced, and also any gig worthy bass amps? I was playing around on some vintage jazz basses, so something along that line. Any variations of jazz basses that play well? or just stick with fender? I liked the acoustic amp I was playing on, don't really know much about bass amps I know its kind of vague, but I know some people do bass
MrNylon
The SG Std. Faded, great price and great sound.
rjay777
I just picked up a Squier Classic Vibe J bass. Amazing bass for the buck. I got mine used but they're still incredibly cheap new. Smooth player and sounds like a Fender.

MrNylon
Bass amp, if not a Marshall, Hartke.
MojoRedFoot
I've been super happy with my Ibanez SR535. WWJWD?
Silenced Fred
Bass amp, if not a Marshall, Hartke. I tried out the SG bass, and it didn't click with me. In an ideal world, I could get a Ric, but thats way outta the price range. I'll have to try a Marshall bass amp out
Searcy
The Squire active 5 string is a good sounding bass for the money. I want to get the fretless 4 they make too.
Silenced Fred
WWJWD? Use an octave pedal
rjay777
Squier does make some good stuff, I'm guessing this is one of the better ones? I like the jazz basses I was pretty skeptical when I first saw one, so I checked about a 100 youtube vids before I was convinced. lol They seemed to put some extra effort into the classic vibe series. Good guitars.
MojoRedFoot
Use an octave pedal that's cheaper than a bass. I bought one of these recently:
MrNylon
A G&L SB-2 Tribute is awesome. P bass and J bass pups on board.
Silenced Fred
that's cheaper than a bass. I bought one of these recently: True, but I'd prefer to use a bass for stuff, it gives a better feel to me at least and that's my preference

Surveyor
I'm really liking the Fender Mexican Standard P Bass. As far as amps go, I'm looking to get a smaller Peavey or Fender. I'm looking to scratch an itch at this point; who knows what will come later.
DanvillRob
I played a Jazz bass back in the 60's. Liked it. Play a P-Bass now. LOVE it. Bought a used solid state Fender Bassman amp. Adequate and cheap.

Surveyor
The Jazz Basses are good; just gravitating toward the P. I found one that is a sunburst very close to my MIM Strat. .
Kimbabig
 doesn't look like a squier to me... It's not a "squier" man, this one is actually a "squire" It's a joke. Plus Chris Squire is a kick a$$ bassist.

I'll have to look him up. Rics are sick basses, so anyone that plays one is alright by me Gotta play with fuzz though, make it sick
