jc0r Posted January 9, 2011 Posted January 9, 2011 Hi there, Got a 2010 SG on it way to me, just wondering as i can not find any definitive answer on this, does anybody know if Gibson SG Standards are a 1 piece or multi piece body? Mine is Ebony so hard to tell Many thanks
Jeff-7 Posted January 9, 2011 Posted January 9, 2011 If it is a standard it will most likely be a multi-piece body.
BigKahune Posted January 9, 2011 Posted January 9, 2011 If it is a standard it will most likely be a multi-piece body. +1 There some one piece bodies to be had, but you've got to look for them. And welcome to the Gibson Forums B)
jc0r Posted January 9, 2011 Author Posted January 9, 2011 Many thanks for both the answer and the welcome :D
69 Son Posted January 9, 2011 Posted January 9, 2011 ebony should be the easiest to tell, hold it at at an angle and look for seams in the lacquer. I still can't tell w/ my 2010 white.
SG FAN Posted January 10, 2011 Posted January 10, 2011 It's rare to find a one piece body on a Standard these days. I'm pretty sure mine is one piece, but it is an 08 model. These days, 2 and 3 piece bodies are common. If you find a well bookmatched two piece body, you'll be ahead of the game.
kevoT Posted January 10, 2011 Posted January 10, 2011 I believe most SG STDs are now 2 pieces (like mine) due to the shortage of old mahogany :'( this goes for many other guitars using other various hardwoods.
