Kineman Karma Posted January 10, 2011 Posted January 10, 2011 Hi all, Well after numerous enquiries trying to scalp a LPS 50's Tribute to no avail, I was told by a local dealer that Gibson Australia is hearing rumours of another run of the 50's Tribute LPS. Has anyone else heard of this and if so what sort of time line are we looking at. I wanted one yesterday..and the day before, but I guess if the lovely people at Gibson listen to their loyal customers they will do another run hopefully very soon. Anyone?
btoth76 Posted January 10, 2011 Posted January 10, 2011 Hello! I've red about these rumours too in this forum somewhere. As a lucky owner of a Goldtop, I might be speaking against myself - thinking about the possible increasing of value of a rarity - but I think Gibson got to do another run. Many people were unable to buy this wonderful instrument, because of the fault of the sales department at Gibson. The whole thing about these guitars were managed in a wrong manner. Those people whose preorder have been cancelled got to be compensated somehow! I had to wait 220 days for my GT, I almost gave up waiting many times, but I didn't. That's how I became the owner of the only one GT imported to Hungary. But many musicians - who ordered the guitar at the same place - didn't wanted to wait that long and cancelled their orders - probably many of them turned their backs on Gibson forever... Best Regards... Bence

Best Regards... Bence The problem there is that Gibson didn't cancel any Customer orders. The bungling was all done at the retailer level. As to compensation, I suggest it might be a good idea not to hold one's breath ;). As to another run of these, while I can't confirm or deny the rumors, I have serious doubts they'll make another run of these. Is this something with a precedent in Gibson history? I suspect more likely, that they will take note of the huge popularity of the model (due to a combination of features/price/value) and come up with another model that shares many attributes of this great success. Personally, my favorite idea would be to raise the price point about $200 and produce the same guitar with a bound body (maybe even neck?). While I know Studios generally don't carry binding, I think they have on special editions of the past. To me, this would make the guitar WAY more desirable (in ALL of the original 5 finishes), and though I'm guessing, I think the +$200 price point would easily cover the cost of adding the binding (speculation, I have no idea of the actual costs involved). I know I'd be all over one (or more!) of these in a heartbeat. Not suffering a flood would be a great addition to the new model introduction too. Gibson, take care of that, will ya' ?
sparky scott 29 Posted January 10, 2011 Posted January 10, 2011 Yea!! What he said!! It makes perfect sense..It would be a big open market for them, no doubt.
Blackflag Posted January 11, 2011 Posted January 11, 2011 Oh, no...here we go again... Count me in. I'm getting a burst this time. They'd be stupid not to do another run. Plenty of people still want one. I wouldn't **** with the price, though...that's what hooked everybody. **** = richard
JThunderz Posted January 12, 2011 Posted January 12, 2011 Someone told me today that they're going to do another run in 6 months, but they're not going to do the goldtops this time round, but all of the other finishes will be available.
btoth76 Posted January 12, 2011 Posted January 12, 2011 Hello Everybody! Just to inform You (mainly those in Europe): One 50's Tribute Goldtop (and a white one) available here in Hungary at an official dealership!!! http://www.hangszera...tpl=page&cid=3. Call them by phone, they speak english: +3617887353. The website is in hungarian, tough. Be quick, it's a beauty! :)

Bocs ahogy most angolúl irok, de ha Magyarországon vagyok, nem vagyak magyar... Link doesn't work for me. Where is the shop? And what is their price in HUF? Not that I will buy it - I really want a Gibson acoustic, so can't think of buying a Les Paul, even in this price bracket. Just interested to know where in Hungary is doing the Gibson business. If I could afford another electric though, I would look seriously at the Goldtop. Would love to hear yours in action some time! Sorry that yours won't be the only Gold Top tribute in Hungary any more, but pleased for whoever buys it. I had a weird experience last month when I saw a Howard Roberts on sale in Budapest. Such a rare beast except online. I really had imagined that mine would be the only one in the country!

btoth76 Posted January 12, 2011 Posted January 12, 2011 Hello Mojorule! Try this link instead then: www.mezzoforte.hu. Their shop is on the corner of Radnóti and Tátra street near the Margit-bridge. They are not getting instruments directly from Gibson, they order them via Lauda-Audio company in Poland which is an offical dealership, but they take orders on whatever You desire from Gibson, can handle warranty issues if any. You will receive the Your instrument normally packed in a Gibson box, with all the usual documents. In my previous post I didn't wanted to go into such details, simply called them "official dealership", because You won't notice the difference. I can highly recommend them: they're correct, reliable professionals. Buy from them with confidence. The price for a Gibson Les Paul 50's Tribute in Hungary is 239.000 HUF. For all colors. Bit higher than - let's say - in Germany, because of the high VAT-rate in Hungary. Well, as far as being the only owner of a GT in Hungary is concerned: I am not selfish, I am happy with my guitar, and happy when others happy too. Live and let live! The Howard Roberts guitar is a beauty too. Sometimes You can run into such rarities here in Hungary. A year ago a '76 L6-S in excellent condition was advertised for months for the price of a new LP Jr!!! I was stupid skipping it, shouldn't have hesitated. The other time I saw a maple-boarded Norlin-era Custom for 500.000 HUF. Sometimes those gems appear on hungarian websites... Sorry I think, You won't hear mine GT in action. I am not a highly skilled guitarist. I only play for my own joy. It won't bring any joy to others. I appreciate the instrument itself much more, than I can play it. But we could have a beer or two sometimes at B City Pub, if You are not against! Szia! Bence
charlie brown Posted January 14, 2011 Posted January 14, 2011 For what it's worth...I just got an e-mail, from my dealer (E.M. Shorts) telling me they should have some '60's Tribute LP Studios (Same as the 50's, but with a slimmer '60's neck, apparently), on Monday (January 17, 2011). They will be, about the same price range, as the '50's Tibute models. Just in case, anyone's interested... CB

If so, I'm in for a burst.

Well, according to my dealer...it will be the same, as the '50's Tribute, but with a '60's profile neck. So, yeah...P-90's. Not sure about a "Gold Top," but I told them, IF there was one, available...especially, if it had a 2-piece body (center seam), to "save me one!" (Smile) I guess, I'll find out, on Monday?! I have to say, I really love the neck on my '50's Tribute...so, it will be interesting, to see it the '60's version, is any "better??" CB

Neither one is skinny, which I don't like. I have a 339 with a 30/60 neck that feels really nice. I wasn't that thrilled with the GT anyways...but I'm kind of stupid. I think next time around I would do the sunburst...maybe cherry? If you see it, get a picture. Unless you buy it, then we want many pictures.

Ain't the dealer was talking about the Studio 60 Mahogany (also known as Studio Satin Ebony)? They are already here in Europe at the same price with Studio 50's. Best regards... Bence
btoth76 Posted January 14, 2011 Posted January 14, 2011 Hello guys! If Gibson going to issue a Tribute model for each decade, I will wait for a 70's Studio. Possibly with minis, and voluted headstock. In wine red - of course! I would immediately send my money to the Church of Mighty Gibson for getting blessed with one of those!

These will be the same guitar(s), as the '50's Tributes (apparently...haven't actually seen any, Yet), but with a '60's neck profile, while still retaining the P-90 pickups. The '60 Mahogany or Studio Satin Ebony, has humbucker pickups. Anyway, time will tell... CB
Kineman Karma Posted January 14, 2011 Author Posted January 14, 2011 Ooh I might have to make a phone call to my dealer and enquire about the 60's Tribute. If they do another run of the 50's or the 60's, I don't care as long as either one of them still has P-90's and still retails at the same price as last time. I like the idea of a slimmer 60's neck profile. hmmmm.
charlie brown Posted January 15, 2011 Posted January 15, 2011 Well, I guess I need to go to Wichita...to see my boys, at E.M. Shorts! They got in 15 '60's Tribute LP Studios, today! Including some "Gold Tops!" Man...I don't need to be spending any more money, right now...LOL But, that's never stopped me, in the past...at least, not too often. (Smile) They didn't mention any solid colors (yet), but they have the two "burst" colors, and the Gold Tops! Order line: 1-800-835-3006...ask for Cody, or Lance! E-mail: wbic@wichitaband.com Yes, they DO ship Internationally. Call, for a quote.... Good Luck! Cheers, CB
joetothedirt Posted January 16, 2011 Posted January 16, 2011 I was at NAMM yesterday and held/played the LP studio 60's tribute. It is, as stated, identical to the LPS 50's but with the 60's profile neck. There was a white one, a honey burst (nice), and a gold top (even nicer) there, P-90's and all. So keep an eye on your favorite retailer's solidbody electric guitar section and hit refresh every 10 seconds until you see them, then order one immediately. Good luck all.

Thanks heaps Mate, Yeah I was at my dealer this morning. I have placed first dibs through that store which is national. I am stoked about that. Anyway, The 50's specs add new 60's profile neck making it the 60's tribute will suit me just fine. I like the slimmer profile neck anyway. I envy you my friend. I would love to go to namm one day. Thanks for keeping us informed. Any pic's would be great. Cheers.

davidrebel Posted February 5, 2011 Posted February 5, 2011 www.thomann.de (a german store) relisted the 50's tribute gt as available a few days ago (it must have been between Feb. 01st and 03rd). A buddy of mine and I each ordered one and received them today. When we checked back with thomann's site today they were sold out: http://www.thomann.de/de/gibson_lp_studio_50s_tribute_p90_gt.htm
