TommyK Posted January 10, 2011 Posted January 10, 2011 I just found out that, in the 70's, the C.G.Conn company, makers of student level brass and woodwind instruments, tried to expand their music instrument market to include guitars, aimed at the school market. Sales were lackluster and the venture folded before the decade was out. They had flat tops, solid body electrics, electric arch tops, etc. Not initially, but for a time, they were made by Matsumoku, maker of Aria, Yamaha and Norlin era Epiphones. From the pics they appear to be a mid-level grade instrument. Here's a website that details some of the history: http://thejetmedic.com/connguitars.aspx Enjoy.
grampa Posted January 10, 2011 Posted January 10, 2011 My little brother was in an ad campaign for Conn back in the 70's. They used pictures of him playing with lots of other good looking young folks. He got a free Conn guitar for the work. It was OK.
Red 333 Posted January 10, 2011 Posted January 10, 2011 Thanks, TommyK. Real interesting. I enjoy learning about the Asian manufacturers and their products. Red 333
Gilliangirl Posted January 10, 2011 Posted January 10, 2011 Matsumoku...... isn't that the same company that made Mansfield guitars? They were the 70's Martin knock-offs. I had one back then. Picked it up for $85.00 brand new in 1976 or so.
Murph Posted January 11, 2011 Posted January 11, 2011 Did they have any small tube amps badged Conn? Maybe I'm thinking Selmer......
