EVOL!
i got turned onto him by Evol. He's a killer player, I love his style. Not as "cool" as half the people being posted here before, but he has a ton of my respect Thanks for the shout out. And Nels is cool, but in more of a geek-chic way like Lee Ranaldo and Thurston Moore. Here is Nels interpretation of Coltrane's Interstellar Space Revisited http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TcjAy3VtMVU
heymisterk
There is a shocking and disturbing lack of classical players here! I am very disappointed...

I guess I am so amazed by people like him because there aren't that many like them and I can hardly play like that. Shredders are cool, the stuff they do is amazing And Nels' work on Coltrane's song is amazing
surfpup
I've seen Nels live a couple of times with Wilco. Always a joy to hear. He always seems to understand what to play and what not to play.

He always seems to understand what to play and what not to play. What I love about Nels Cline is his sense of melody, and part of that is knowing what NOT to play. He certainly can play fast, but mostly it is not about jamming as many notes as he can into a stretch of music to make it memorable. What I dislike about a great deal of the players posted here is that, while technically proficient, they don't have any sense of melody or...soul...? Or dynamics! Cline can bring a serious wall of noise or just some subtle colors depending on what the songs needs.
Jammin' Joe
Ton's of smokin' guitarists here. Smokin'. Whether they're shredders or pickers or whatever, they're all Smokin'. But let me go in a different direction for a moment here. How about some Rory. I always have to give him a plug. He deserves it. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LSzsDWTc4mY
