Lathain
Hey, I recently bought a Gibson that i believe to be a U2 from literally just before they changed the model to a Mark/Mach 2? It was made 27th October 1990 in Nashville and was 42nd stamped that day (got this from serial number on headstock) I think it is a U2, it is a dark metallic green with black. gold Gibson logo and all black hardware... Floyd Rose bridge... 3 pickups (1 hum/ 2 single i think) and has the normal 3 switches (on/off for the 3 pickups) and 2 knobs(vol/coil tap and tone) plus a 4th switch which i think auto activates the hum (like a solo switch, bypassing the tone i think). any more info needed just ask. I was wondering if anyone could help me identify more about his guitar as there is very little information on it... anything will help or if anyone can point me in the right direction to finding out that would be great. i have heard that alot of Gibson players are not keen on this guitar, however, having played a few LP's and firebirds, i like this better (aside from my FB V) and i was just wondering if anyone could shed some light on it for me. thanks. Lathain
Yeah, its a U2. thanks for confirming that... was just wondering though, everytime i type in u2 i can only find ones with 3 toggle switches on them, the only u2 i can find with 4 is the limited edition one, but this doesnt have limited edition stamped on the back of the headstock like they do... does this make any difference? StijnV
Hi Lathain, Please find attached info on the 1989 version, with 4 switches, plus the schematic. For the functions of the switches: Here’s what it does according to the schematic: 3 – on/off switches for 3 pickups 1 – master switch to turn pickups on (overrides other switches) 1 – push button volume knob which controls volume and splits coils on the bridge pickup 1 – master tone knob U2wiring.PDF

speedmetal
Hey guys!! Finally!! A schematic for wiring this thing up!! I picked up a US-1 some time ago with the intent of changing the pickups out and keeping it. This thing doesn't have a mark on it...sat in it's case for YEARS. Well, I really don't need it (too many guitars, if that's possible) and am in the process of putting the original 2 singles and 1 humbucker back in. Unfortunately when I pulled everything out I didn't diagram it. Mine has only 3 on/off and 2 knobs. I'm guessing that I would just eliminate from the drawing the second switch and wire mine exactly the same. Any ideas? Oh, I took this to a semi-local guitar shop (the one on Washington in East Lansing Mich) and they wanted between $250 and $300 just to wire it. I bought it for $400! Ouch!!! Thanks for any help! dem00n
$300 for a wiring? Thats way to much, they would do for like $100 at Guitarcenter here!
