Space Pup Posted August 25, 2008 Posted August 25, 2008 Here's something for all you Koa fans to keep an eye out for. My local Guitar Center has a Custom Shop SWD cutaway with Koa sides, back, and top. It is a gorgeous looking guitar and has a nice tone but it must take lot to drive a Koa top because it's not very loud volume wise and the notes fade fast. The finger picking tone is bright but soft kind of favoring the mid and low tones. Strumming again yeilds a nice tone but the faster and harder you strum the more the highs seem to fade out. I would say picking single notes seems to be this guitars strong point. Of course, I couldn't get any other info about the guitar out of the kid at GC, like how many were made. He didn't know it was made from Koa until I pointed it out to him on the label...typical GC.
maninblack Posted August 25, 2008 Posted August 25, 2008 They have one of these at the Cincinnati GC as well. I agree completely with your description. Nice tone. Low volume.
