BigKahune Posted January 11, 2011 Posted January 11, 2011 So you like acoustics ... Yes. And your point is . . . . . ? The SG is a nice guitar.

spanishoaknc Posted January 11, 2011 Posted January 11, 2011 When I was a teenager I liked electric guitars / I had a 50's model Les Paul Jr. with a small Gibson amp. {12" Jenkins speaker} Nice / I loaned my Les Paul Jr. to a friend and he had a big 2 stack Marshall amp with a head that pumped out alot of watts / something used at a rock concert / he was using my guitar in his bedroom with the vol. on 9 or 10 / and his drunk stepfather come rushing in the room and grabbed my Les Paul and smashed it into two pieces at the neck & body, Sad / Anyway That was the last of electric - Loud - guitars for me / That was in south Fla. and I went home later to the North Carolina Mountains and let the hard rock music go / I started being around my Uncles and hearing good old traditional mountain music from my heritage / with bluegrass, country, etc. / I started hearing James Taylor, etc. and it was Acoustic Guitars for me / Just right for solo in a small room with the finger picking style I learned from my people / I use an Acoustic Genz Benz amp now in a larger setting / ALOT OF RAMBLING ON ABOUT ME / So My Story is: "Keep it simple", So much you can do with an Acoustic Gibson without all the NOISE from an ELECTRIC guitar with all the pedels and noise makers. / Yes I Like My Acoustic Music that You can Play Anywhere / THATS MY STORY & I'm STICKING TO IT! If you like that loud music thats OK / all music has its place / I just remember my youth and wish I still had that Les Paul Jr. / Bye You'll

Then... I was lent an album of Narcisco Yepes playing Bach and that was it!!! I fell in love with the sound of the nylon strung guitar. loved the way the pieces were all self contained and you could just move the hand a tiny bit and make an immensely different tone. Also all the stuff going on the pieces just seemed so much more interesting. you know the counterpoint etc... I do love though playing my Flying V with gain on 10 if I have had a bad day LMAO!! Matt

Great story ,by the way! Do you still live in the NC mountains or in the coastal area of Spanish Oak?
McDuff Posted January 12, 2011 Posted January 12, 2011 I don't think one audio clip is gonna change anyone.. A good clip though. I still haven't gotten myself an electric guitar, though I have seriously contemplated buying a semi-hollow.

Duende Posted January 12, 2011 Posted January 12, 2011 nbtel, Out of curiosity, as you are mainly an acoustic player; what was your point in posting it? Cheers Matt
Versatile Posted January 12, 2011 Posted January 12, 2011 I have 1 electric and 19 acoustics. My electric is a gretsch white falcon. My ratio is the other way round to the Gretsch though V
Watchdogg Posted January 12, 2011 Posted January 12, 2011 I have that exact same model down to the color, killer guitar, its not been out of its case in several years along with many other electrics. If I had not promised it to my son it probably would have been sold to fund a high end acoustic.

Do you still live in the NC mountains or in the coastal area of Spanish Oak? You are right about that Now I don't loan my Wife, Car, or Guitar to anybody for any reason A Lesson well learned in my youth. Spanish Oak is a Mountain in Avery County, North Carolina where I was raised-up by my Grandparents / I Live in Roxboro, NC which is about 30 miles north of Durham, NC on 501 North.
