KentuckyMartian Posted January 14, 2011 Posted January 14, 2011 I've got an 96 Eppi Les Paul that I've never been happy with the neck Pickup sound. Has always seemed Muddy and dull. Well I'm starting to investigate it and I found this in the Electronics cavity and was wondering if the Pot had been changed or do they come with the bigger pot on the neck volume knob? I Love the Guitar and haven't found another that plays as good as it. Here is a Front picture of the Guitar just for Looks
Fringe Lunatic Posted January 14, 2011 Posted January 14, 2011 Quite probably. What is its resistance value?
KentuckyMartian Posted January 14, 2011 Author Posted January 14, 2011 Dunno Has No writing On it to tell.
Fantana Posted January 14, 2011 Posted January 14, 2011 Mid 90s Epis came with the small pots, so I would guess that the original became noisy/scratchy and the owner was too cheap to replace all of them! Love the rig BTW
Gunner Posted January 15, 2011 Posted January 15, 2011 You should measure that pot with a multimeter across the two outer terminals. If someone swapped in the wrong value pot that could be your problem. Should be about 500K-ohms.
brianh Posted January 15, 2011 Posted January 15, 2011 Yep, been changed. Time for an overhaul: http://www.mojotone....it.A/id.3230/.f
Hungrycat Posted January 15, 2011 Posted January 15, 2011 Yep, somebody just slapped it a working pot, regardless of it's quality. Sometimes you gotta do that though...
amx05462 Posted January 15, 2011 Posted January 15, 2011 if its too muddy go to a lesser cap. i put .033s in my les paul fpr the same reason. problem solved.
Fringe Lunatic Posted January 15, 2011 Posted January 15, 2011 if its too muddy go to a lesser cap. i put .033s in my les paul fpr the same reason. problem solved. If you installed caps with a lesser value of .033 to accomplish a less muddy sound, what was in your LP before the swap? Reason I ask is that AFAIK, most LPs use a value of .022, and that a higher value would allow more high frequencies to roll off as the tone control went from 10 to 1. And in any case, the tone cap is out of the picture when the pot is at 10, meaning that if the pickup sounds muddy at 10, the cap isn't the reason.
KentuckyMartian Posted January 15, 2011 Author Posted January 15, 2011 Thanks Guys That was what I thought just needed some reassurance. Looks Like I'll just call up these guys and get a whole Kit since there only about an hour away, and that would give me a reason to go up to shop. http://www.rsguitarworks.net/cms2/
