Riffster Posted January 15, 2011 Posted January 15, 2011 Coming soon, P90s and 25 1/2" scale on the nicer Squier line. Not too shabby. http://guitars.musiciansfriend.com/product/Squier-Vintage-Modified-Jazzmaster-Special-Electric-Guitar?sku=H69851
krock Posted January 15, 2011 Posted January 15, 2011 thats quite a gd price. the fender blacktop is also quite good if your looking for that particular model for little money
surfpup Posted January 15, 2011 Posted January 15, 2011 I have a friend who's a Fender Forum junkie, and he says everyone is raving about the quality/price ratio of the new Squier stuff.
Riffster Posted January 15, 2011 Author Posted January 15, 2011 I have a friend who's a Fender Forum junkie, and he says everyone is raving about the quality/price ratio of the new Squier stuff. Yea, the vintage modified line (I believe is called) has nicer materials and finishes.
Silenced Fred Posted January 15, 2011 Posted January 15, 2011 Coming soon, P90s and 25 1/2" scale on the nicer Squier line. Not too shabby. http://guitars.musiciansfriend.com/product/Squier-Vintage-Modified-Jazzmaster-Special-Electric-Guitar?sku=H69851 I believe it actually has the jazzmaster pickups, not p90s But the higher end squier stuff is actually very nice
EVOL! Posted January 16, 2011 Posted January 16, 2011 Yes, they are Jazzmaster style soap bar pickups. Very different than P90s and just as unique tone wise. From the link: - Duncan Designed™ JM-101B single-coil Jazzmaster® bridge pickup with AlNiCo V magnets - Duncan Designed™ JM-101N single-coil Jazzmaster® neck pickup with AlNiCo V magnets I like this guitar in that it closely resembles the Sonic Youth Jazzblasters; it does not have the plethora of dials and switches. Just volume, tone, and a toggle switch. While I am not jazzed about the colors I do dig the look and feel of these guitars. Remember the Squier SuperSonics that came out in the nineties? Had a chance to buy one in '95, but went with an Epiphone Coronet reissue instead. Still kicking myself since the Epi had a bad neck: The fretboard wasn't planed right so no matter how you adjusted it the strings fretted out around the twelfth and fifteenth frets. A used one of these Squiers with a set of Duncan Quarter Pounders would sound ace.
surfpup Posted January 16, 2011 Posted January 16, 2011 ... I am not jazzed about the colors I kinda dig the Butterscotch Blonde. Perhaps more colors will follow though.
SG FAN Posted January 16, 2011 Posted January 16, 2011 Had a higher end Deluxe Squire Strat that was pretty sweet. But I couldn't get squat for It when I tried to sell it, I think Epiphones have a higher resale. Never buying a Squier again, just because of that:(
surfpup Posted January 16, 2011 Posted January 16, 2011 True, they are not good investments! Oh wait, most guitars aren't. I think they are ripe for modding myself. The body on my white Strat is a Japanese Squier from like '86, and it's solid as a rock. (Of course I think they are produced in Indo now, so who knows).
Searcy Posted January 16, 2011 Posted January 16, 2011 If you buy Squires and Epis used there isn't much lower they can go. Often I can sell them for close to what I paid.
SG FAN Posted January 16, 2011 Posted January 16, 2011 Oh, I don't really look at guitars as investments, but I would like to get half of what I paid back. Couldn't even get that. And on the Japanese Squier topic, they're worlds better than Chinese or Indonesion "Squiers", even though some of the higher end ones are kinda nice.
Riffster Posted January 16, 2011 Author Posted January 16, 2011 I always thought those pickups were P90's of sorts, I am sure with the pickup shape and Alnico V magnets they sound clear and bright. I like the looks of this model, It'd be nice if they offer a few more color options, but Squiers are like that they offer limited colors on a lot of thier stuff. At $300 is a good deal I think, guitarss at this price point ae not investments anyway. Just looks like a fun guitar. I know I like the neck on my Squier 51, and the necks on the nicer Squier line are better. I did not see the nut width listed there and that is also a big consideration for me, I'll have to try one of these when they come out.
