bluesguitar65
I hated the 80s Thank God the early 90's bands did away with horrible sappy hair band shizzle Here's an unsung guitar hero in my book.... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=t1N_qX_r4Iw
milod
Steve... I hear about "preference" versus "value judgment of better or not." I wonder sometimes what makes a song popular. Without getting into rock era musicians and the built-in favorites or un-favorites, I love the swing era piece "deep purple," but beyond the girl singer's voice, I never understood how the thing made it to #1 in the US for several weeks at least. The orchestration to me was 20s style and "thin." A few years later another arrangement appealed to me much, much more and - as I said - I wasn't even born yet. <grin> Personally I found the 80s-90s almost deserts in terms of pop music whenever I spun the dial on the Jeep's radio. On the other hand, I look back at some stuff from the 50s and I wonder how they ever made it onto "best seller" lists. Another point, though that I absolutely don't understand: Novelty tunes were popular bits of all genres of pop music from early printed to recorded music, it seems, until they just seemed to disappear in the '60s. It's almost as if the biz decided it was all for serious stuff and that folks don't need an occasional laugh. m
