Anyone have any tips on how to FIRMLY secure a strap to the over sized end pin jack on a J45 ?

Mine came off..the guitar dropped caught partially by my big foot before hitting the carpet (thank god for carpet )..

I really think they could have better designed the LR Baggs end pin jack...

anyone have any opinions or pointers ?

Thanks in advance..post-29521-036839000 1295274897_thumb.jpg

You know those 1/4" to mini stereo jack adapters you get with headphones? When you're not actually plugged in, put one of these into the endpin jack. It works like a strap lock.

Well, I'll be dipped in doo-doo! One of my favorite things to do is walk around while practicing at home. I am fanatic about checking the strap there, but this is a brilliant solution. Never crossed my mind! Thanks!![thumbup]

Word of warning on this...if your pick-up system is Active and has a battery inside then this will probably drain the battery. Many of these systems are designed so that when a metal jack is inserted it turns on the pick-up system.

Somewhere I got a few 1/4" jacks such as Drathbun is suggesting but made out of plastic so they don't turn on the pick-up system .

Here we go....just found it -- http://elderly.com//new_instruments/items/SJ1-BLACK.htm

True, but only for days when I need Extra Hold...

That endpin is made for a strap! It's just larger than the hole in normal straps. This was my solution that works for me. I use a simple piece of leather 1 1/4" wide for my strap. I tie it on the headstock with a leather shoelace, and on the other end (where the endpin jack is), I took a spent .45 caliber bullet shell casing and punched a hole. It fits perfectly over the endpin jack! Right where the strap is supposed to fit!

Recently my wife dragged me along with her as she shopped in a store that specialized in supplies for arts & crafts. As I browsed around I came across a section for leather working supplies. I spotted a set of leather punches....and as I looked at them I settled on one that punches a 1/2" hole.

I have now modified a couple straps....I left the original hole alone in case I use the strap on a non-electrified acoustic...and I punched the 1/2" hole a bit north of the original hole.

The new hole works great on a guitar with an end pin jack and holds tight. I think I found a solution that works for me!

If your guitar strap button hole looks like this, no wonder it falls off.

1. Make sure the large hole portion of the button hole is just a tad smaller in diameter than the o.d. of the button's valley where the strap hole sits.

2. Install the strap over the button. If it goes on too easily, suture the slit portion of the button hole until the strap requires a bit of a tug to remove. Use heavy button thread.

3. If at all possible, never remove the strap. If this is possible, then suture the slit until the strap is nigh on impossible to remove.
