ProjectB Posted January 21, 2011 Posted January 21, 2011 Hi, I'm the owner of this guitar, and I would like to know if the serial fits the description: Previous owner claimed it was a Refinished 1976 Gibson Les Paul Deluxe. it has indeed 8 digits starting with 00 = 76 but there's no MADE IN USA mentionned. please help ! P.S. previous owner wasn't first owner and claimed that this guitar was refinished. It's now a goldtop with humbuckers (there are prerouted humbucker Les Paul Deluxe's, so that's still an option!) those tuners are not the original, I'm thinking of rechanging them to some Klusons.
Grog Posted January 22, 2011 Posted January 22, 2011 In 1976, Gibson used a decal. It had the serial number, model & "Made in USA" on a small decal at the top of the headstock. It may have been refinished, & the serial number was restamped in the back. Around 1976, Gibson also used maple necks on many of their Les Pauls, instead of mahogany. They started stamping "8" didgit numbers in 1977, with the first & fifth number being the year. If that were the case, this would be a 2005.............. Check the pot codes, it should say something like 1357632, (if you can read it under the solder). 135=CTS 76=year 32=week of the year. http://www.gibson.com/en-us/Support/SerialNumberSearch/
