albatross5791 Posted January 23, 2011 Posted January 23, 2011 I am looking for information on 1.)What is the name of your favorite 2.) 1 or 2 specs that make it so sought after (x bracing, unfinished, all mahogany, etc.) Thanks!
onewilyfool Posted January 23, 2011 Posted January 23, 2011 CF-100 specs: 14 1/8" wide (LG sized), pointed cutaway, solid "X" braced spruce top with scalloped braces, solid mahogany back and sides, teardrop pickguard, upper belly bridge (belly towards soundhold), bound rosewood fingerboard with 20 frets, trapezoid fingerboard inlays,Pearl logo, crown peghead inlay., sunburst finish. The only 1950s Gibson flat top with a cutaway. I've got it strung with D'Adario 11's
albatross5791 Posted January 31, 2011 Author Posted January 31, 2011 Wow that looks nice!!! Thanks for the response...I am starting to get some good ideas :)
EuroAussie Posted January 31, 2011 Posted January 31, 2011 That's easy, my 69' Country Western. Why, the tone. Oh, and also a ton of mojo :-)
zombywoof Posted January 31, 2011 Posted January 31, 2011 My favorite remains my '56 SJ. It has the non-scalllop, low cut X bracing and the larger pointy pickguard. To my ears it has a slightly quicker note decay and a bit less bottom than some of the older Gibsons I have played. But it is real punchy with a sling-shot response. The low end is thumpy with no flabbiness about it and the mids and trebles thick. While it can sing at low volumes a heavy attack brings out the best it has to give. Loud as all get out. And it has that sweet roundback 1950s neck profile. This guitar gets alot more time out of the case than my 1960 J-200.
lespaulj45 Posted January 31, 2011 Posted January 31, 2011 J-45.....doesnt seem to matter, old, new, pristine or beat up,amplified or not-tone,tone,tone. There is a good reason why it is the longest production run in Gibson history.mahogany sides and back, spruce top-my favorite guitar

Gilliangirl Posted January 31, 2011 Posted January 31, 2011 Deleted! I read the question wrong. Sorry! Resume what you were doing
J45dale Posted February 2, 2011 Posted February 2, 2011 onewilyfool, I believe that Patty Loveless is using a CF-100 on her Crazy Arms video. Check out on YouTube...very nice. Dale.

Tes Gweneth, Patty, Jackson Brown, Leon Redbone....they ALL want to be like me......sigh, it is hard being a trend setter....lol
brians356 Posted February 3, 2011 Posted February 3, 2011 My LG-3s are essentially CF-100s without the cutaway. They are nice guitars, but certainly don't stand up to the larger J-45/50s or Country Westerns (SJNs) I own for sound. Brian
larryp58 Posted February 3, 2011 Posted February 3, 2011 Exactly how old does it have to be to be called "vintage"?
E-minor7 Posted February 3, 2011 Posted February 3, 2011 Exactly how old does it have to be to be called "vintage"? Well, thinking twice I would suggest : Before 1975 – Vintage Before 1945 – Veteran Before 1925 – Antique Which means 36, 66 and 86 years of age.
