antwhi2001 Posted January 23, 2011 Posted January 23, 2011 An update on my limited edition trans blue Junior. I replaced the tuners and filed the nut slots, also bought some Nut Sauce lube. Put a black plastic cover on the pup, and....added a combined wrap-around and t-o-m bridge. I hadn't seen these before but they can be picked up quite cheaply, and sort out any intonation issues...
Whitmore Willy Posted January 23, 2011 Posted January 23, 2011 Antwhi, Congrats on a job well done and some great "pics". Looks sharp. Love the pointers on the controls....nice touch! Willy
amx05462 Posted January 23, 2011 Posted January 23, 2011 i put one of those tial pieces on a melody maker once. worked great.
mgrmatt Posted January 23, 2011 Posted January 23, 2011 Looks great! That one has some awesome woodgrain showing through. mgm
RSDx Posted January 23, 2011 Posted January 23, 2011 Very nice !!!! Am not normally too big a fan of blue guitars, but yours works quite nice - I love it!!! Nice job, and enjoy!!!
BlueEpiphone Posted January 24, 2011 Posted January 24, 2011 I really like that color. Is it actually more saturated blue than the pictures depict? Well, back to putting my LP Jr. back together. Pictures to follow soon. Just remembered I forgot to solder my pup cover. This is a good time to slow down and take a break. Enjoy your Jr.
antwhi2001 Posted January 24, 2011 Author Posted January 24, 2011 The colour really does look like that. BrianH has the red equivalent, which also very nice...
copperhead Posted January 25, 2011 Posted January 25, 2011 Very nice git, you have there where did you get the bridge for it? and what type of tuners did you use? I would like to upgrade my junior. It really needs different tuners for sure. Any part numbers and the company you purchased them from would be appreciated. Thanks, Bob.
brianh Posted January 25, 2011 Posted January 25, 2011 Bob, if you do a Google search for "Leo Quan wraparound" you will have dozens of purchase options. Here's one: http://www.amazon.com/Badass-Around-Bridge-Adjustable-Saddles/dp/B002M3ODII I don't know what Antwhi used, but these GFS tuners are super cheap and work very well: http://www.guitarfetish.com/Classic-Keystone-Tuners-Chrome-Fits-70s-80s-Les-Pauls_p_171.html
antwhi2001 Posted January 26, 2011 Author Posted January 26, 2011 The tuners are cheap Asian Grover copies bought on e-bay. I suspect that the stock tuners may have been ok, and my tuning issues may have just been down to the nut. I didn't bother spending much money on these. Part of the motivation to change them was cosmetic, I've fitted black ones to match the rest of the hardware. The stock ones had a firm action and were made by Jinho (stamped underneath), they usually make good cheap tuners.
copperhead Posted January 26, 2011 Posted January 26, 2011 Thanks for chiming in Ant, my tuners couldn't hold a tune in a bucket. Bob
