stardaruni Posted January 26, 2011 Posted January 26, 2011 Hello everyone, I can't believe it! The last thing I was looking to do today is buy another guitar, famous last words I know. I was looking through the local online classified section and what did I find not 5 miles from my house, a 1936 Kalamazoo KG-14! The owner listed it as all original good shape with the tuners replaced (With the same kind), and a neck reset and adjustment. Even the finish is original, and in great shape. The guitar plays and sounds awesome, especially bluesy! In any case I think I got a real good deal for $1250.00, no case included. Any opinions out there? I'm not a collector because I play rather than moth ball my guitars, I feel I found a little gem. Cheers, Francesco
onewilyfool Posted January 26, 2011 Posted January 26, 2011 I'd say you did pretty good. IF it doesn't need a lot of repairs.....note those Kalamazoos are pretty lightly braced, which makes them GREAT guitars, if they don't need a lot of fixin'! Please show some pics!!!!

I will try and post some pics in the next day or so. This particular one does not need anything but a new set of strings! Neck reset and tuner change (Same kind as original) were carried out by a reputable luthier 6 years ago. Thank you for the feedback on the guitar... Cheers, Francesco
zombywoof Posted January 26, 2011 Posted January 26, 2011 The Robert Johnson Photobooth pic geetar! The price is a tad on the high side but the KG-14 is the model to get and I would take one over a Gibson L-0 or L-1 pretty much any day of the week. Congrats and enjoy.
Red 333 Posted January 26, 2011 Posted January 26, 2011 Conrats on your KG-14. I was infatuated with a Sport, recently. freak show Posted January 26, 2011 Posted January 26, 2011 I think you got that guitar for a great price. Congratulations! I have a KG-11, which a bit smaller and has a sort of weird shape. The sound of mine is fantastic, so I'll bet yours is awesome. I believe I have read that some people think the KG-14 was the guitar Robert Johnson ordered from Montgomery Ward. If you google "Johnson Kalamazoo KG-14", I think you'll find some interesting info about your guitar.

I just changed the strings today to a set of Martin SP Bronze light guage. This guitar truly sings the Blues, one of the best purchases I've ever made. Love it to bits! Cheers, Francesco
