Gibson SG-100

I can file this under "the one that got away". I got this 1972 Gibson SG-100 in a trade with a bunch of other stuff in the mid-90s and never paid much attention to it. I let it go for $150 in like 2002. Little did I know then, they are worth a grand or better. They only made these for two years in 1971 and 1972. The only good thing is, my cousin owns it and if he ever needs to get rid of it, I get first dibs...although I doubt he'll sell it back to me for $150 \m/

Pretty cool. I never heard of an SG-100. I wonder what the 1 single coil pickup sounded like. Probably pretty sweet. I hope you can get it back someday. Cheers.

Every few years I google the old SG 100. I don't play guitar but a guy was selling it cheap in 1995 (about 250 bucks if my memory is working right)and I thought it would be worth a lot of money one day. I took it to Gruhn in the late 90's and they told me it was worth 100 bucks. That just didn't seem right so I put it in my closet and left in there until last summer. I took it back to Gruhn and they say it's worth a few hundred and I could get a full appraisal done but the cost of the appraisal wouldn't be worth it compared to the value of the guitar.

I check ebay from time to time and I see people list the SG 100 at ridiculas prices. Just saw one for 2,700 that of course didn't sell. I never see an SG 100 sold under completed listings.

If I dig deep into some of the google searches it seems that this guitar was kind of a failure for Gibson compared to the other SG models and people who are into collecting guitars don't care for it. People who are into playing guitars say that it's a pretty good guitar for live gigs but a clunker in the studio.

OK so that is me sharing the little I know about the SG 100

I am curious if any of yout Gibson gurus know more about this guitar and can share thoughts and opinions.
