thelady Posted January 27, 2011 Posted January 27, 2011 HYe, can you replace normal humbuckers, with dog ear p90s or regular p90s thank you
dem00n Posted January 28, 2011 Posted January 28, 2011 No, you would need a P-94, or a special p-90 made into a size of a normal humbucker. A normal p-90 would require re-routing on the cavity hole that was made for a humbucker. Also many other company's besides Gibson make humbucker sized P-90's. Heres a link to the Gibson P-94. http://store.gibson.com/Products/Pickups-and-Electronics/Single-Coil-Pickups/P-94R.aspx
TattooedCarrot Posted February 3, 2011 Posted February 3, 2011 Depends on the guitar. For example, the 67 style flying V is routed to take both, just get a custom cut pickguard for the P90's. Here's a faded V that I hot rodded by stripping the finish and adding a black pickguard and cream pickups to, etc. Then I got board and ordered a new pickguard off ebay and dropped the P90's in - no other mods were needed. Don't see many like this around.
Bender 4 Life Posted February 6, 2011 Posted February 6, 2011 p-94s would work, but several other companys sell h-bucker sized p-90s too......guitar fetish sells some good ones (dream/mean 90s I think)at a nice price. g/f also sells "dream 180s" in soapbar OR 'bucker size that sound like a cross between a p-90 and a vintage Filtertron p'up, and are totally hum-free. I have a set in my gold-top that I absolutely LOVE! or, there are parts retailers (allparts,wd music, guitar fetish to name a few) that also sell adapter rings/kits that allow soapbar style p-90s to be used without pickguard swaps or mods.
