MNash87
I'm getting a 76 Reissue Explorer next week and I'm wondering what pickups to put in it. I don't particularly like the 500T, but I'm thinking about a Dirty Fingers. What to put in the neck, though. Thinking about that or some Duncans. We play classic rock, old 80's metal, and some alternative rock on the heavier side. I love the Scorpions tone, Dokken, Priest, Maiden, Whitesnake, Blue Murder, those kinds of bands. Any suggestions? Thanks in advance.
dem00n
I love Dirty Fingers, but also check these guys out. They make some of the best high output pups out there. http://www.bareknucklepickups.co.uk/main/pickups.php?cat=humbuckers Look under commentary
mosquito3
I have got an Explorer with 500T and 496R and another one with Dirty fingers Pups. Dirty fingers are great pickups...maybe just a little less versatile at the neck position than the 496R but great for heavy/ hard rock. In the bridge position a Dirty finger is just awesome. I believe they would be perfect for the music you play
MNash87
If I go with the Dirty Fingers at the bridge, what would be a good match for a neck pickup? I use the neck for some soloing and clean stuff.
Morten M
I'd suggest Rio Grande Texas/BBQ (neck/bridge) anytime. Especially from the description of the styles you play. That said, I'm using Dirty Fingers for D-tuning as I find the bottom extremely well defined.
EXPLORER 2
I play a 1983 E2 with the dirty fingers. It's great for high sustained/distorted leads and rhythms. It belts out great on southern rock songs by 38 Special, Skynard, etc. Great for classic arena rock songs. Some of the best solos can be found with the tone zeroed out on the neck pickup!! thejay
Dirty Fingers would suit you just fine I think. I have them in a RD and they sound awesome!
ESPguy
Do they clean up when u roll down the volume knob?
dem00n
Do they clean up when u roll down the volume knob? Dirty Fingers tend to do that. Most pickups tend to do that... Also it can depend on the pot you have on the guitar connected to the pups.
mosquito3
Do they clean up when u roll down the volume knob? Sure they do! I have a couple of DF on an '80s Explorer. They sound just amazing in my opinion. If you play a little with knobs i bet you 'll find some nice versatility from those pickups.
