"Quality Issues?" None whatsoever! At least, not yet.

I did have the dreaded switch problem, in my '50's Tribute,

but all it took, to correct it, was blowing it out, with

some canned air, and using some contact cleaner, and it's

been fine, since. So...??? Some of the finish issues,

some of us had, with the '50's...certainly are not an issue,

with this '60's version. I checked out, the lot...when I

purchased mine, and none of them had finish problems. Some

were slightly "relic'd," as advertised, but none of the un-

even (or even missing) finish, on the backs, and in or around

the neck joints, that some of the '50's had.

Cheers,

CB

One of the more "rare" 2-piece (center seamed) backs, too. ;>)

(Please forgive my guitar porn, as it's been on this forum, a lot, lately.) ;>b

Having previously owned one of the "Limited" Epi '56 Goldtops, I would say you're likely to be happier with the '60's LP Tribute. The Epi has a fancier look, with the binding and all, but the Gibson is a much better sounding guitar. The Epi was quite dull and flat sounding, while the Tribute has the snap and growl you'd expect from P-90's. So far my 60's has been bullet proof, no issues at all. I too lucked out with a 2 piece back, it helps that my friend at the shop pulled the best one they got for me! But all that I have seen have been of excellent quality, fit and finish. I have a Goldtop, the Honeyburst is my 2nd favorite. I may end up with a Honeyburst soon, unless I go with the SG 60's Tribute!

">Here is my Studio 60's Tribute Les Paul. I bought it from Rainbow Guitars in AZ. I talk to Harvey from Rainbow Guitar and ask him if he had a gold top with only a two piece body. Harvey told me that he would look and call me back which he did and told me that he had this one guitar that had a two piece body but it was not split down the middle as some. Harvey told me that it was almost a one piece body but there was a second piece that was only 1 ½" wide that ran through the control cove and the fret board had an even dark color to it, so I had Harvey go ahead and send it to me. [Just a side note, if you are going to buy one of these guitars, makes sure you buy it from a company that will take the time to look for what you are wanting otherwise you don't know if you will be getting a butcher block guitar body or not. Just saying]</FONT>

Anyway the guitar was everything that Harvey said it was and more, I'm very happy with the guitar. The LP sounds great, feels great, plays great and looks awesome. The neck was not as thin as I thought it was going to be, which was just fine with me. As we all know the P-90's are awesome, I love playing the blues and I could not ask for a better sound from the pickups.

If you end up buying one; Enjoy it -

I've ordered one today. I think my son is paying for it. [flapper]

I'm a 50 years old man and I bought my self two of these gold tops. I read some where that most of these 50's and 60's tribute LP's are being sold to baby boomers. One just can't beat the price of these Tribute LP's, so dont be surprise if you use your son 60's tribute as well, or you may just want to buy one for your self.

Have fun -

I ordered a tribute gold top myself... its not in stock and is supposed to be in stock the 13th of Feb... I hope so but it doesn't really matter much... my sorry behind is in Iraq for another two months and I won't get to play it until I get home... this is my "deployment gift" to myself... my first Gibson...

While I'm on here. I've been looking on 'wildwood guitars' website. They have some of these studios for sale. The back's look 'one piece' to me.

Who is the cheapest to buy a Bigsby from?

Nope, I think you can go all the way up to a three piece back:

I think there are one piece backs too. This one seems that way:

Note, you can click on the images to make them huge. Wish they had a Honey Burst so I can see it up close.

One reason its making it tough for me to pick one up online.

Cool I just got one myself. I didn't know about the "2 piece" body thing, I thought they just came that way so I guess I got lucky as mine is a 2 piece split right along the middle; strap button sits smack dab center! Very nice playing, sounding, and looking guitar but I do have a few issues with it. First off, the electronics. I thought for sure it was a cheapo asian toggle switch but supposedly they're Switchcraft. Coulda fooled me. I compared it to my SG Classic's switch and it's a far cheaper switch; Switchcraft or not. Pots are cheap too, stamped Gibson, but they look like re-branded Alphas to me. Capacitors are junk little blue candy dots and the cavity is bare wood with no RFI protection. Didn't the 50's Tributes have Sprague Orange Drops at least? All this can be upgraded of course (and I will), so it wasn't a deal breaker. The edge of the neck in places has quite a few rough file marks on it, and the heel of the neck joint has some pretty bad sander scarring. Had to look close for that but it's there. I will add though that the back of the neck playing area, headstock, and gold top finish itself were flawless. The included gig bag is a joke, it's the same type you'd get in one of those beginner guitar boxed packages, but with a Gibson logo. What happened to the Levy's gig bags? All that being said, I was able to inspect the guitar in person before I bought it and I indeed did buy it. I was looking for a nice looking and sounding inexpensive P90 guitar to play gigs with and I've always wanted a Gold Top.

Wow that one really does look like a 1 piece back. Though the right side (looking at the back) looks like it could possibly be a small second piece. I couldn't tell mine was a 2-piece just from looking at the back, the pieces were that well matched. I had to look at it from the side. I wonder, does Gibson reserve the nice 2-piece bodies for brick and mortar stores maybe? Think about it, in those cases everyone gets to see exactly what they're getting. If they see a butcher block they're going to pass on it and the store may be left with an unsellable guitar. Whereas online they're site unseen and it's more likely someone is going to keep a less than perfect guitar if the alternative is to have to package it up and ship it back. Dunno just a thought.

Hey charlie brown,

Does yours have the "pointers" on the knobs? It looks like it doesn't but I can't tell for sure. Mind doesn't. But I'm seeing in stock pictures that they're "supposed to". I've also seen some people scalping these on ebay and those have the metal knob pointers on them with no mention that they've been retro-fitted. Just curious, I'll definitely be adding them to mine!

I have a 60's tribute gold top myself and my LP did not come with the pointers either. On the Gibson web site it shows that the 60's tribute with the pointers but I thought that Gibson web site may have just used the 50's tribute old pictures. I will be calling Gibson Monday morning to find out for sure, let me know if you find out anything about this as well -
