Fishman9898 Posted January 29, 2011 Posted January 29, 2011 I want to buy a Gibson Custom Guitar. Does anyone have a Gibson Custom 1960 Les Paul Plaintop Reissue VOS or have an opinion on them? Musician's Friend has them for $3299 and they look pretty good. http://guitars.musiciansfriend.com/product/Gibson-Custom-1960-Les-Paul-Plaintop-Reissue-Electric-Guitar?sku=H68051
eljay Posted January 29, 2011 Posted January 29, 2011 hello, fishman! my reply will be of limited value since i've not played a '60 VOS. i do, however, have a pair of '58 plaintop RI VOSs and they are wonderful guitars. my info is that the necks will be different between the '58s and the '60s. so, given that '58 and '60 plain tops will be similar in appearance, i'd suggest playing both if you can, in case one neck shape or the other suits you better. good luck with your quest! eljay
Tim Plains Posted January 29, 2011 Posted January 29, 2011 All historic reissues (R7, R9, this G0) are all the same guitar. Read this No G0s but I have a few Rs including two R0s. Excellent, excellent guitars! That price is a little high and you can buy plain top or gold top Rs for much less...but you can only buy G0s from Guitar Center or Musician's Friend (or used).
69 Son Posted January 29, 2011 Posted January 29, 2011 The newest batch from Musician's Friend have the normal R0 Serial numbers. Available in a Deep Bourbon Burst and Autumn Burst. I had called to see if they had any of the previous run Darkburst G0's left in stock.
pippy Posted January 31, 2011 Posted January 31, 2011 I've only played one plain-top G0 but it was easily one of the best Les Pauls I've ever played. P.
Flight959 Posted February 13, 2011 Posted February 13, 2011 I've only played one plain-top G0 but it was easily one of the best Les Pauls I've ever played. P. Thanks Pippy!! Best neck EVER on the R0/G0.... Regards
davidl Posted February 14, 2011 Posted February 14, 2011 This is my 1960 VOS re-issue. Obviously not a plain top but as great a player as it is nice to look at. Best LP I've ever had my hands on. Dave
g6120 Posted February 20, 2011 Posted February 20, 2011 Playing since 1964 and Ive played maybe three Les Paul guitars all were ok but had the opportunity at the Guitar Center to try a Les Paul VOS 1960 about 2 years ago it was a lightning strike and found it to be the best Ive played to this date keeper for sure . If Im correct they had a 58 or a 59 as well not sure but the 60 just seemed to suit me better so I took it home . They had two of the 60s versions both played about the same and for some reason I prefer the plain top versions they just are more appealing to me .
VERADO Posted March 11, 2011 Posted March 11, 2011 Hi, I ve Got a LP R0 pre historic with a 60's neck slim tapper. I can't talk i've never change this guitare. it's so confortable. I'm just try another brand and style (because i want to complete my collection ) but now, it 's so difficult to find the same playability of my R0. It's a personnaly taste but try before. If you love this neck, so you can be suprised for your futur progress. Nice choice !! Sam from France
Flight959 Posted March 13, 2011 Posted March 13, 2011 I played another Guitar Center G0 yesterday... It felt great!! They have such nice comfortable slim necks.. Regards
WahKeen Posted March 16, 2011 Posted March 16, 2011 I almost pulled the trigger on that MF model with the exclusive autumn burst! I love 60's necks and that is one heck of a beautiful plain top finish. I would see if they can send you pics of the one you might buy so that you can be happy with the top. You can't go wrong there. They're excellent players!
