kwfrederick Posted January 30, 2011 Posted January 30, 2011 My wife was given what looks like a B-25 from a family member who passed. I cant match the serial. It is ink stamped and begins with either a "Z" or a "2" then is followed with "2888" some spaces and then a "35". THere is some damange to the body that i want to get restored, I think the pick guard has been replaced and I know the tuners are a cheap replacement. I would like to bring it back to original state, so i need to figure out the real model. I am pretty sure the original owner received it between 1950 and 1970, but that is as narrow as i can get at this point. It really looks like a B-25 but i think it could be older. any help is really appreciated. thank you
ksdaddy Posted January 30, 2011 Posted January 30, 2011 If it's a 'Z' then it's a 1952. It wouldn't be a B-25 as that model designation wasn't used until the early 60s. It's an LG something, an LG-1, LG-2 or LG-3.

Some original equipment tuners from that era may seem to be cheap by today's standards. Verify these are indeed after market before tossing them. KSDADDY and others know their stuff on this subject. Also, what some call damage, some would call 'patina of honest wear'. From a value stand point, refinishing a guitar unnecessarily would devalue a vintage guitar that this appears to be. We'd be glad to take a look at her and offer an opinion. Congrats on a new found Gibson. And welcome to the Gibson Board. \:D/ Check your shootin' irons at the door and keep an eye on your woman.
ksdaddy Posted January 31, 2011 Posted January 31, 2011 Check your shootin' irons at the door and keep an eye on your woman. I never check my shootin' irons at the door and I intend to keep my eye on everybody ELSE's woman.
