Is the 2008 worth the buy compared to the older models even though the 08 has updated Hardware with a changed neck? I kinda want the 1960 standard reissue Les Paul's but I can't really tell the difference. Can someone help me break down the differences pros/cons with the 2008 les paul standard to the 1960 ones, if you prefer the 1960 which year in the 60's

I play

Hard-Rock

Pop-Rock

The Music I like to play are stuff like The Beatles,The Who, The Cream, Led Zep, rolling stones, and stuff like modern Pop-Rock

With all due respect; it's difficult for us to say what would suit you.

First-off; all Les Pauls can deliver the sounds you require.

How many Les Pauls have you tried? Which models? What did you think of them? What did you like/dislike about each and why?

Why do you want the 1960 Standard re-issue?

The R0's are considerably more expensive to buy than a Standard so if, as you say, you can't tell the difference then why spend more money than necessary?

If you can answer these questions you will give us some sort of starting-point and we can try to help you out.

As Pippy said, we can`t tell you which one is best for you and if you can`t tell the difference, then I suggest you go for the cheaper 08 Standard.

Why do you ask specificity about the 08 Standard and the 1960 re issue?

When buying a Les Paul, you need to take the time out to play an reasonable selection and spend a little time understanding the the options:

- Solid body like you would find on the 1960 RI, Drilled holes that you would find on a Traditional. Chambered that you would find on a 08 Standard etc

- Slime 60`s neck, fat 50`s neck or something in between that you would find on a 08 Standard

- All mahogany construction like you would find a Studio Faded or the more traditional Maple top and mahogany back

- Large selection of pickups

- Low cost Studio, mid priced Standard`s or the high priced Custom Shop

And on top of all that, as the wood used for individual guitars has a significant impact on the weight of the LP and can have an impact on tone, so if posable, try some before you buy.

There is loads of information on spec out there, so I recommend you do a little home work and then follow it up with a spending some time in music shops.

All the best
