10drum Posted January 31, 2011 Posted January 31, 2011 Greetings, I just pulled the trigger on a '95 J-45 Rosewood. Does anyone have one, and what can anyone tell me about them? I have not found much info about the mid 90's Bozeman Gibsons. I play Martins usually and bought a 000-28 with the shorter scale and wanted to try a dreadnaught with a 24 3/4" scale. I can't wait until I receive it. Thanks for all replies.
onewilyfool Posted February 1, 2011 Posted February 1, 2011 Congrads...make sure you post some pics and sound bites when you get it!!!
gearbasher Posted February 1, 2011 Posted February 1, 2011 Are you sure it's a '95? I have a '99 and I thought that was the first production year. This is from Blue Book Publications: https://store.bluebookinc.com/instantaccess/Model.aspx?product=0&id=295 J-45 Rosewood (Model RS4R) - similar to J-45, except has Indian rosewood back/sides, ebony fingerboard/bridge, gold hardware, and abalone fingerboard inlays, transducer pickup standard, available in Vintage Sunburst or Antique Natural finish, mfg. 1999-2008.
10drum Posted February 1, 2011 Author Posted February 1, 2011 Thanks for the link gearbasher. I see what you mean they don't show a J-45 Rosewood reissue before 99. I know the serial number 93185xxx indicates that it is a 95. The top is natural and it has has an orange label with "J-45 Rosewood" printed on it. I'll post some photos when I get it
Yggdrasil Posted February 1, 2011 Posted February 1, 2011 Gibson is notorious for one-offs & short runs. it's one of the charms of being a Gibson owner. Eg. - NONE of my Gibsons - 1994 Starburst, 2002 Roy Smeck Radio Grande & 2006 Nick Lucas Mahogany b&s - were "production models".
BigKahune Posted February 1, 2011 Posted February 1, 2011 Gibson is notorious for one-offs & short runs. ... +1 There's also custom orders. But congrats on the purchase - and let's see some pics when she gets in. B)
Hogeye Posted February 1, 2011 Posted February 1, 2011 There are a lot of people out there giving out different info. Just for the record... Gibson says they made 24 J-45 Rosewood guitars in antique natural in '95 and 21 in '96.
10drum Posted February 1, 2011 Author Posted February 1, 2011 I have owned only a few Gibsons and Epiphones. Martins are Martins, the serial number sez it all. I think there are too many Martin models now but everyone is doing that. The wife & I were playing at a Bluegrass show in Nashville, Tn back in the mid 80's and there was a guitar show at the convention center where the show was. Gibson brought in some special built accoustics, set em on a table by the door, and they were gone (sold) before we got back to the door. The J-45 I bought has a banner headstock with a painted logo, if that means anything. I'm sort of new to this forum, I usually poke around on the "unofficial martin guitar forum". Thanks for the replies. 24? That's interesting Hogeye, how did you know that?
gearbasher Posted February 1, 2011 Posted February 1, 2011 Here's my '99: Orange label..abalone rosette..fishman pickup. Nicer inlays (my opinion) than the dots they're using on the rosewoods now: and a very dark back/sides: Post pics...I'd like to see the differences.
10drum Posted February 1, 2011 Author Posted February 1, 2011 Nice guitar gearbasher, but the one I'm getting is really plain, rosewood finger board, Les Paul ivory type tuners, & dot markers.
J45dale Posted February 2, 2011 Posted February 2, 2011 Gearbasher, Very nice J45, it must be a custom order as I have not seen those fret markers before. Also the back appears more Brazil than EIR.??? Dale.
