Standard in Vintage/Tobacco Burst? And Off-Cuts used in Standard Faded?

Hey Guys,

2 things. Some idiot on another guitar site is saying that Standard Faded's are made using off-cut crap wood. Is this true? He said he cut one open and saw it. Meh.

And, can you get a Standard in a Vintage Sunburst/Tobacco Burst type colour (not Desert Burst either)?

If so, mine is the best sounding hunk of driftwood I have ever played.

Talk is cheap.....I cant see anyone purposely cutting into a Les Paul.

What could you possibly gain by doing so? I mean, its not like you can

just put the guitar back together again without disfiguring damage

to the instrument.

Its just someone trying to get a reaction.

Sounds like that guy was talking out his arse to me. So he took his 1500 dollar guitar and cut it open did he? Must be nice to be so wealthy. What a load of BS. And you can tell him we all say so.

Standard fadeds are still standards and some even have nicer looking tops than the regular standards.

Desert burst isn't not a color option for the fadeds. This is my Tobacco burst

My other question was can you get Standards in A Vintage Sunburst type colour? Im not talking about Fadeds' date=' just the plain Standard. I really like Vintage/Tobacco Sunburst Colour.[/quote']

These guitars are painted by hand. It's still a guy in a Tyvek suit, in a paint booth with an air brush in his hand. Each one is different and has a personality of it's own. I bet Gibson doesn't even name the finish until after they look at the guitar after it's done.

To get the sunburst rim around a guitar you get one pass with the air brush, How light or dark it is basically depends on how fast the painter moves. To get the proper feather effect you can't go around a second time. So the human element is what makes them all individual. I don't care what cutesy name Gibson calls the finish, it comes down to two basic sunbursts, Cherry or Tobacco. The lightness, darkness, vintage or faded is all perceived in the eye of the beholder.

Find one you like and buy it.

See here in Caloundra(biggest crap hole ever), Australia. Or Australia full stop, we dont have massive guitar shops with every Gibson and colour knowen to man. Basicallly, you just have to order the guitar and hope for the best. Sucks huh? I'll have to visit a shop in Brisbane, they could be an eqivilant of Guitar Center but way smaller.

So, are you saying they do make a Tobacco? Because you cant use a Cherry colour and end up with a brown Vintage Sunburst Colour. I did see a 50's Neck Standard in Antique Vintage with 57' Classic Humbuckers on an American site...

I just need to know if its a Standard colour in the Standard Series. All the sites arnt showing it, but Ive seen pics of them.

I ve just checked out the email I got from gibson and here is the answer

Serial number 00055XXX is listed as a 2005 Les Paul Standard, vintage sunburst finish with nickel hardware, 60’s neck profile.

It is a Vintage Sunburst, not tobacco... Sorry #-o

Yeah i own a tobacco burst Fender Strat. And usually it's two tone and the outer ring is a burgundy or tobacco red with an a trans orange inner ring. Lovely colors man. I know there are burst on everything, but i appreciate them on beautiful instruments, especially does with vintage touches or expensive guitars.
