A little off topic, but has Roy Bookbinder got nickel strings on his AJ in that video?

They're 80/20s. Roy uses 'em on everything, and you can see the brass color in the early closeups.

I think that bark knocks my socks off if I haven't played it for a while - loud and agressive - but after a while I just want the more sedate ride with my Roy Smeck.

I have a place that I love to take my AJ. We have a church group...of pickers and singers that get together for a folk music jam session. Last week we had three guitars, a bass, a mandolin, two fiddles, an autoharp and ukulele. In addition, we had ten or 12 singers who don't play instruments. We play and sing folk songs. The AJ is great in that setting cause it cuts through all that mess. I can bang out the chords and still be heard through the din.

At home on the couch I'll pull out something else...but in the folk group singalong the AJ is perfect.

Thanks for the info Bob. I use John Pearse 80/20s Lights on mine - so maybe it sounds a bit like Roy's as it is, playing excepted. I've been curious about nickel's anyway, so may give them a go.

I'd never heard Roy Bookbinder before, but that was about the most enjoyable instructional video I've come across, he comes across like you best buddy just trying to help you out. I may have to check out the dvd.
