icantbuyafender Posted February 9, 2011 Posted February 9, 2011 any immediate character differences other than wax-potting? is the color/flavor different? More scooped? Brighter? Boomier? Vintage only sound? Handle gain well? thanks

saturn Posted February 10, 2011 Posted February 10, 2011 Well, I have a Studio with 490/498. My good friend and band mate has an R7 with BB 1/2s which I play a lot. In my experience the BBs are a little more mellow and smooth. Especially the bridge p/u. I don't notice a whole lot of difference in the neck p/u. When played with gain, the BBs can be a little noisy. The 498 does have a little of that scooped sound.
NeoConMan Posted February 10, 2011 Posted February 10, 2011 Gimme potted. Microphonic squealing pisses me off big time. (Thank you, Lindy Fralin - more than once.) I know it's not what you asked, but look at 57 Classics. I LOVE 'em! Nothing wrong with the 490/498 either.
icantbuyafender Posted February 10, 2011 Author Posted February 10, 2011 ive been eyeing them mofos for sooooo long. its time i jumped at it and asked them out. bb1 and bb2 are destined for ebay.
