schnicke Posted February 11, 2011 Posted February 11, 2011 Hi, my USA SG standard from 2009 has a neck pickup causing at certain frequences (especially powercord E) some noise, as it gets into vibrating contact with the pickguard. I know, that especially the neck pickups of several Gibson models are not straight seated... As far as I can say this does not effect the amp-sound, but if played unplugged it is a little bit annoying. Has anyone suggestions, how to solve this problem (Im no technical pro)? May this - in the long run - cause some damage to the pickup? Thanks for your comments, Harald
BigKahune Posted February 11, 2011 Posted February 11, 2011 Old player's trick - Remove the pup. Cut a piece of foam or sponge and put it in the route under the pup. Resecure the pup. Done. The pressure from the foam will hold the pup in place (no tilt) and dampen the vibration. So cut the foam piece with this in mind.

With pup you meen pickup, right? (Im no native speaker ). The problem is, that to remove the pickup from an SG standard I frist would have to remove the pickguard and the bridge, as the pickguard covers most of the body incl. the pickups. Thats definitly an overkill for me. BTW: Thats not true for the SG reissue, the pickups are mounted stand-alone, so this would be a big advantage... I think the best solution would be to put some small piece of (black) sponge between pickup and pickguard.
