The Taylor 110/210s are acoustic/electric, my son's been wanting a 110e for a while, his birthday's coming (we'll see). But they're up in the $798 and up range (as far as I can find).

You might take a look at Epiphone Masterbuilts.. They're in the $550 and down range.

I'd look at Epis. I've now had two a-e Epis. Not bad at all, but I got smaller ones for fingerpickin'.

There's a huge choice.

BTW, one might note that if you like Gibson necks in general, you'll probably like the Epi.

But when it comes to feel and tone... If you can get to a guitar store with a batch of different sorts, try some.

They will feel strange if you've been playing a board all your life, though, regardless of brand.

I don't look at Fender anythings except amps, btw.

thanks guys, I totally forgot about the masterbilt epis.

I never really considered fender when it came to acoustics

just for choice, but thanks milod. and I was about to settle

for a cheap simon and patrick songsmith, mainly because I

thought I would be bringing the guitar everywhere and it

might get banged up with nicks and dings and I could mic the

guitar by putting a second mic at waist level, but I guess if

I go with the masterbilt I could just be more careful with it.

Im still not sure [confused] I'll keep you guys posted on this

I use guitar center to describe any big box music store really. I tell my friend to go to guitar center when he needs new sax reeds, just my personal dialect

Martin 1 series: American made, comes in dreadnought and orchestra model sizes, all solid wood body, with a laminate neck.

Has acoustic, acoustic electric and acoustic electric with cutaway.

I have the OM-1, no electronics, but a great guitar overall.

sadly long & mcquade doesnt carry breedlove, neither does tom lee, or steves music store...basically nowhere

near me. I think axe music carries them, but theyre based in calgary, and I hate calgary(hockey reasons)

but my family might be taking a trip to edmonton in the early summer and YES! they have a store there.

I'll look for some places nearby that carry breedlove, but till then I must think aboot my decision

Damn Canadians [lol]

Since you are in Canada, also check out Seagull, they are Canadian made to boot!

One with good electronics and everything is about 500 by me, I used to have one, but it had a broken truss rod (purchased it used from those red commie bastards)

Great sound

I still think you shouldn't rule out the Fender until you check em out, but whatever. I wouldn't have considered Fender either, but my local shop had some and they seemed well built and sounded great for a great price.

I actually tried a couple out last week, the felt ok, but didnt sound the way Id like

I bought a Martin 000-15M as my first "quality" acoustic a couple of weeks ago...and I couldnt be happier...Played like butter right out of the box, and has the warmest, smoothest, acoustic sound I've heard...Its made of all genuine mahogany and Indian Rosewood....no laminates, or Sapele...Just an incredible guitar, and have yet to find another one like it...( I literally went to both of my local guitar stores to play every acoustic in its price range to make sure it was the right one..)I paid 1050$...witch may be above your price range but oh so worth it..

Actually back in the '70s I had a similar concern and inclination toward an A-E.

One of the first that really "worked" was the Ovation. I still have my "Electric Legend" that has only a volume control on the guitar itself, and a 14-fret nylon string "Country Artist" that is ditto on the electronics.

The Ovations even back then worked rather well. I can't recall exactly what year I got them in, but I believe it was prior to '74. Anyway, the steel string Legend worked well for "old time" music unamplified but by a microphone as well as some country and "soft rock."

It ain't a Martin D28, but back then it was far more versatile.

On the other hand, I ain't played any of the new ones - and by "new" I mean in the past 30 years. <grin>

I liked the necks. The sound was pretty decent even with lighter strings I favor.

But... for a "real" guitar, I'd still go personally for an Epi in the price range. I've now had two of 'em and they ain't bad at all if they're considered for what a given model is designed to do.

I tend to believe everything else is kinda an attempt to be either a Gibson, a Martin or something in between...

The H'Bird is an excellent choice for accompanying the human voice, especially solo. It is warm and woody, owing to the mahogany body. If something my bright you require, go with a Dove. The maple back and sides brighten things up. If it is volume, go with an Advanced Jumbo or a SJ.

Best to just play them and listen to their voices.
