PressHeartToContinue
Hey guys, am wanting to purchase a Gibson Firebird V 2010, but did Gibson stop putting Ebony fingerboards on the 2010 models? if so, which run did they feature the Ebony boards on their Classic/Polaris white models? Think I remembered their spec page saying that it was Ebony on the White models and now its just Rosewood across the board of finishes. Does anyone have screencaps of Gibson's spec page or know for certain that they changed the specs for the 2010 models? THANKS 1: Did the "regular" line of Firebird V's ever have Ebony as it's Fretboard? or did i just mix it up with the specs from Explorers, Flying V's and Les Paul studios. 2: Polaris White / Classic White. Any differences?
Oringo
I may be unaware of some special Custom Shop models, but for the usual Firebird line, only the three pickup reverse VII came with an ebony board. All of the others (I, III, V, all non-reverse) had rosewood. I've never heard of Gibson putting ebony on any V's, no matter the color.
PressHeartToContinue
Ah, so that answers that question I suppose. Was refering to the usual Gibson Firebird V's, because I think I had it mixed up when looking through the Flying V's, Explorers and Les Paul studios and they ALL featured Ebony on the White finish, so I guess I thought naturally the Firebirds would be the same and was totally bummed out and stopped the reservation when I saw "Rosewood" as the fingerboard material. But as you said that the Firebird V line has ALWAYS had Rosewood as it's fingerboard colour regardless of it's Finish correct? how many % sure are you of this? So there was NEVER a normal Firebird V with an Ebony fretboard like the other models (Explorers, Flying V's?) Then I shall go ahead and place an order for a 2010 Gibson Firebird in White. Oh one more thing, they DID change "Polaris White" to "Classic White" correct? though they are the same colour? Totally appreciate the response mate! Oringo
As far as the "regular" Firebird line goes, I'm 100% sure the V has never been offered with an Ebony board, only the VII. As for special run Custom Shop guitars, I've seen all kinds of things, like a non-reverse 12 string re-issue, but I'm not aware of any V-spec models with ebony fretboards. maybe someone else on the forum knows more about it than I do. I know a bit about old custom colors from the 60's, but I don't know enough about what Gibson is doing these days to say if "Classic" white and "Polaris" white are the same thing. PressHeartToContinue
Ahh, hey thanks for the detailed response. I really do appreciate it. Guess I just confused myself with the spec pages. Looking back at previous year Firebirds in white all seem to feature the Rosewood fretboards too :) Just wanted to be REALLY sure with a second opinion before laying the money down, cuz like, it would totally suck if there was like an Ebony Firebird V version. Larry Mollard
Odd! I made sure the fingerboard was rosewood on the one I just bought. I don't really like ebony. But, as far as I know, the 2010 models are all rosewood.
