MedicBill
I bought this guitar back in 1995 and Im really wondering what it is. Serial number comes back as a 1977 Les Paul Std but it has 3 pick ups.

pippy
It's pretty much 100% certain that the middle pick-up is not an original fitment. The wear on the cover isn't consistent with the neck and bridge units and the p-up ring is a totally different colour. P.
stein
i don't think that guitar ever came with 3 pups, and from the photos, although it is hard to tell, it looks like the middle pup ring is slightly wider than the other 2, and it is a darker yellow. that would indicate it is a different batch of plastic. you really should remove the pups and look to see what they are, as well as check the routes. one thing to look for might be if the rings were sanded down at the bottom. it is also worthwhile to check and see if there are any differences in the pups. not sure how this might affect the value (or if it matters) but it could be that while the middle pickup was added, it might be able to give an indication of when it was added, which might be interesting to know. it seems unlikely that it was done by gibson, but it might have been done when the guitar was new or close to it.
