newb with an old Junior

59lefty

Recommended Posts

Sure what do you want to know?/quote] I've only recently taken out my old guitar which I haven't played since my college days. I've been trying to find out some history on it. It's a lefty and has been determined to be a '59. It's a sunburst singlecut apparently produced after the majority of LP Jr.s were made as double cuts in the red color. I havent been able to find one for a comparison. Gibson says apparently no records are available showing how many left-handed units were produced. If somebody has one or knows of one I'd appreciate some info. Mine's in pretty decent shape and has been in my possession since 1964.

There is some info here: http://home.provide.net/~cfh/lpjr.html

Mine looks like the one shown here except of course everything's reversed. Also it has no "Les Paul Junior" art on the peghead...only the Gibson. I'm trying to post the three pics that I've taken for an appraiser but I've never posted any before. You guys please bear with me, I'm a computer dummy.

I've always thought it was a Junior, and was told by a pretty well-renowned dealer that such was the case. Now I have the pics to photobucket but still cant figure out how to link. May have to wait til some of the kids get home to help.

LOL...I know the feelin...sometimes technology is a little confusing. If they were on your computer , you could reply on here , go to the bottom of the page where it has an option for attachments , or copy ,and paste from Photobucket. You'll get it eventually. [thumbup]

Ok guys there's gotta be somebody that has one of these or can put me in contact with someone that does. Gibson says that lefties from this period were individually ordered so there's likely not a whole lot of 'em but I'd really like to talk with somebody that owns another original.

Could you disclose the first few digits of the serial # ?

Not too many of us can give you very much information on this, but here's what I would do.

I'd call Gibson customer service, have the serial number and any other info you can gather on hand and be prepared to stay on line for a while. (the older a guitar the longer it takes to get info) but Gibson has lost a lot of old records so they may not be too helpful.

If Gibson can't give you the info you want, then I'd start calling well known vintage guitar dealers, in this exact order...

1) Gruhn Guitars

2) Normans Rare Guitars

3) Chicago Music Exchange

But I think between Gibson and Gruhn you'll get all the info you could want.

Hope this helps, your guitar is very beautiful and probably worth a decent amount.

Thanks, I found the other forum shortly after I put up the first post here...There's a pic in an old thread there that is the first one I've seen of another lefty since I started looking several days ago. I'm working on getting some better pictures. Hopefully I'll get the little Gibson Skylark amp back from the repairman shortly and I can put up some more shots of both.
