2005 SG Platinum

Recently went into my local GC and decided I'd had enough of my old Charvel. The biggest push in this decision was the absolutely gorgeous Chrome SG Platinum I saw hanging in the used section and the even more attractive $599 price tag. Honestly, that price tag is what ultimately sold me. My question is, are there any issues I should know about with this instrument or any modifications that anyone can suggest?

I think that fretboard is ebony, here is a picture with its case

That it is. Ebony fretboard without any inlays. That picture is exactly what I got.

You have my guitar's sister, although mine is heavily modified. They also made them in black with the brushed chrome hardware.

I'm going to change mine up just a little as well. Add a racing stripe along the side like the old mustang basses. Change the tuners. Love the guitar though. The fretboard kills me.

Did yours come with a case? My understanding is that these were a GC exclusive. I got mine super cheap because it was a floor model on clearance. No case (bastards!). Would have loved one of those platinum cases. My two favorite things about this model are the ebony fretboard and that it is heavier than an SG Standard.

I absolutely love my SG platinum!! wow, that is a bargain msp_thumbup.gif

I bought mine in 2004 for £535 (about $800). Even then i thought an ebony fret board SG with a hard case was good value for that price. Guitarist magazine also had recently given this particular model their 'Guitarist choice' award, so I was interested even more to try this baby out! It is a lovely instrument.

So, I have to ask too: did you get the killer platinum colored case?

Hi Evol

Yes! It is one of my favourite cases lol msp_thumbup.gif

At the time they were £699.00 everywhere (the same price as the standard) but Peter Cooks had 3 in for the special price of £535.00

I just made an offer of $400 plus $25.00 shipping at a pawn shop on Buya.com on one of these guitars. Mine that i will be getting in Feb. has a headstock crack and is overall beaten up but I have had worse. About a year ago I bought a used Gibson SG Special 3 pickup version with a broken headstock repair job on it. Got that on a bargain too but no longer have it. You live and learn about guitars in general and Gibson guitars in particular.
