onewilyfool
I just find this a funky design.....very unattractive to my eye....a weak attempt at "Deco" design.....

ksdaddy
What I don't understand is that I grew up around Chicago (Kay, Harmony, Silvertone, Penncrest, Airline, Old Kraftsman, True Tone, Holiday, Barclay and God only knows how many other brands) archtops and I never saw any of these weirdly painted archtops with their graphics and (sometimes) weird pickguards until just the past few years. Where did they all come from all of a sudden, and why didn't I see any in 1965? I kinda dig the one in the pic actually. I'd dig it more if it had f-holes that were diamond shaped. A little weak in the 'deco' sense. I would like it better without the raised guard.
ksdaddy
I wasted $7.99 on that album in 1984. Holds the record for the most expensive guitar used on the cheapest album cover photo shoot in history.
onewilyfool
I wonder if that guitar got burned up in his warehouse fire???? THAT would be tooo bad... nodehopper
I went to a Niel Young concert at the Irvine Amphitheater which is an outdoor venue with lots of seating on a pretty grassy hill looking down at the stage. The first half was great and the air smelled of grass and "Grass". He played all his usual stuff and just as he sang "I was lying in a burned out basement with the full moon in my eyes." a giant full moon that was dusky orange....popped up over the stage and the stoned out crowd went crazy! He took a half time intermission and suddenly the lights come on and it is Neil and the Shocking Pinks! People started booing and the bulk of the crowd started for the exits. What a trip! Beautiful story - from back then I presume. And that second set must have been, , , shocking. Well, my memory of the release is just one big WHAT !?! I was living in a little room (with my notorious Norlin J-45) at the time and the neighbor – also a huge N.Y. Fan - bought it. I just couldn't cope, it was miles too corny – but wasn't there an all right track called Wandering. . . Ol Fred might know.
bobouz
Just take off the pickguard & you've got a neat looking unit! Very purdy F holes, too. Not to say that I'd want it. Already had way too many Kays, Harmonys, Wards, & Supros back in the day.

Although that shade of green does look like a 1970's idea of cool . . .or one of the three colors on a '53 Desoto my father owned. It was a really nice car--the first we had with air conditioning. Niel and the band came onstage for the second set dressed just like on the album cover and the stage went all pink. Totally ruined the mellow stony vibe I had going! I may have to contact my legal council and have him send you both a nasty letter. ROFL  Pardon Fred – I was aware of your avatar, but made no connection (which I'm sure you know). Have been wondering though. Are you particularly a fan of this record or why did you choose it amongst the 30 + Young diskography. In case you really like it – respect. Guess you fancy the Airfin guitar too then.
ol fred
I was just pushin your leg...Neil is a favorite but I do believe the the artwork was done with tongue firmly in cheek, and I find the image of him be-boppin in a pink suit pretty funny. I actually prefer da blues and Americana. And yep.... Wandering was first released on this album. I do believe Neil and I are both a bit twisted sometimes. ksdaddy
Any chance they are being painted recently instead of originally? Dunno, but here's another one.... On ebay UK
E-minor7
Okay, Airline, not Airfin. Any chance they are being painted recently instead of originally? Although that shade of green does look like a 1970's idea of cool . . .or one of the three colors on a '53 Desoto my father owned. It was a really nice car--the first we had with air conditioning. Wouldn't think so. In my eyes they are right out of a certain show-band style from the 50'ties. The eBay ad says mid60ties. It would soon have been 'old hat' then. BTW, having your roots inside of a pistachio colored Desoto opens an almost mythological dimension behind you. My dad only had a lightblue bobble VW.
