I have been reading the forum for quite a while, and have found it interesting, amusing, confusing and sometimes dangerous... I have owned various guitars over the years. I was waiting for a vintage Gibson L00 or a j45 to come past. I was reading on this forum about the improved guitar quality at Gibson since Ren etc, etc and tried a few new j45's at a local Gibson dealer. Lookout! I returned a few weeks later and came home with a new Blues King (a year ago). After reading in this forum about the j45 true vintage, I tried one at the shop last November but came home with a brand new j45 Standard instead!!!! The pickup was the decider - I wanted to play the j45 (and the blues king) through my amp IMMEDIATELY, not wait for a pickup installation. I myself have really been pondering lately whether to buy vintage or new. Part of me wants the vintage vibe and all that comes with it, but then I play some of the new J-45 TVs and am really impressed by them. It will be a while before I have enough cash to make a purchase either way, but my brain keeps mulling it over. I plan on doing some "research" at the Dallas Guitar Show in April, pretty much my only chance to play the vintage ones. But interesting to hear where you ended up. I was recently comparing a J-45 standard and a J-45TV and must say in this case the standard was far and away better than the TV. But i must say I also played an amazing J-45TV some 6 months ago.
