Bikephreak
I have a pair of old stock OEM/replacement Gibson humbucking pickups. Nickel covers & black plastic rings. I bought them new 21 years ago. One is ink stamped "FEB 15 1980". It has a brass mounting tab that solders to the cover near the ears. I can see some material is poured into the cover to encase the coils. It is a neck position pickup. The other was in Gibson parts box (long since crushed & gone & I think it said "1979" but I don't remember for sure). It has a full cover on the back & is stamped "PAT NO 2,737,842". It is a bridge position pickup. Does anyone know what I have? I am trying to figure out a model name or number for these pickups. I have no idea what they are worth. They have never been mounted and have some shop wear from having them stored for 20 years. Any help is most appreciated.
StijnV
Hi Bikephreak, That must be PAF pickups. Here's some extra info: Decal on the bottom says “Patent-Applied-For” (1957-62). Later models have a decal that reads “Patent No 2,737,842” (mid 1962-75). Patent number stamped into back (1975-early 1991).
