melton Posted February 26, 2011 Posted February 26, 2011 I have a black Explorer pro and I'm doing a bit of mods to it. New cream dimarzios and bezels, 3 push pull pots and a few other things to my liking. I want to highlight the cream binding. One of the things I want is an adhesive cream colored pickguard. I've had no luck in locating an already existing pickguard. Nor any luck with the few custom places I've contacted. It seems the combination of adhesive backing, no screw holes and color choice are a problem, even if I supply an outline. Has anyone already had this done? If so where? I don't want to reinvent the wheel if I don't need to. Suggestions where I can look to have one made? Appreciate the guidance. Mark
veeman Posted February 26, 2011 Posted February 26, 2011 The Explorer Pro's never had a pickguard, you'd have to completely fabricate one, as no model exists.
melton Posted February 27, 2011 Author Posted February 27, 2011 Thanks for the response. Yes, I'm aware that the explorer pro never had a pickguard. I'm interested in locating a pickguard manufacturer that has already fabricated one, saving me some time and effort in making a mockup. I can't be the first to want this mod. At least I didn't think I would be. The Explorer Pro's never had a pickguard, you'd have to completely fabricate one, as no model exists.
Hydra26 Posted March 5, 2011 Posted March 5, 2011 Just a thought on this... If you're leaning towards the adhesive to avoid drilling holes in the top, depending n the adhesive, I would guess that it's going to do more damage than holes for screws in the long run if it reacts poorly with the lacquer. I don't have the expertise to provide real guidance on the adhesive, save to urge you to err on the side of caution. I'd thought briefly about putting a guard on one of my pros at one point, but it never progressed beyond an idle thought. I did try to fit a toggle washer and found that it wouldn't fit.
StijnV Posted March 11, 2011 Posted March 11, 2011 yeah, a temporary pickguard or a permanent pickguard needs indeed to be considered first. If you really want a permanent pickguard you might wanna try www.pickguardian.com
