Spot
Hi Guys, saw this on the BAY and was hoping either RED or an other Learned Flattop Forum member could shed some light on these guitars. Don't think I've actually seen one before... 1994 EPIPHONE TEXAN USA REISSUE 62 OF 5000
zombywoof
All I really know is that in 1994 (or therebouts) Gibson put out limited edition versions of the Texan, Frontier and Excellente. I have seen different numbers for how many guitars were in the runs tossed about.
torca
The Montana made Epiphone Texans were not a very good guitar IMO.I don't believe there were 500 made(5000 must be typo error)and the specs were curious to say the least, certainly not modeled after a true 60's Epiphone. The Montana re-issue had the shorter ,squat headstock with a cheesy decal "Epiphone",but most detrimental was the build as they were without back braces, pressed mahogany ply laminate. Why,I have no idea.I played a few and felt that they were fair at best, far better off to buy a J-45 from that era.I owned a Montana Frontier re-issue that was closer to original spec of vintage Epi/Gibson,not a bad guitar and nice selections of wood, bracing and such correct.Oddly I have just came across a (1993)Epi Excellente re-issue and it is a very good sounding guitar, great build and quality woods and fewer made than the Texan or Frontier. It seemed Gibson got more serious about the model specs as the model "prestige" elevated. If I was in the market for a Texan the one on ebay would be my last choice, heck for far less you would buy a Macca inspired Epi Texan re-issue,solid braced back/ply sides, and suprisingly good the ones I've played.I think they are a tremendous value, and very well built. ponty
I played one of these in London in 1995-6. It was at Vintage and Rare in Kensington. It was better playing and sounding than the J-45s they had in at the time. It wont disappoint.

Don't think I've actually seen one before... 1994 EPIPHONE TEXAN USA REISSUE 62 OF 5000 Spoton, I'm travelling right now so I'm away from all my trusty reference material. Even without access to that, I do remember that none if what I had read about the '90s Texans mentioned anything about the brace-less backs that Torca mentioned. That's news to me, and very curious and interesting (THANKS, Torca!). However, Gibson was trying a lot of what we'd consider odd things today when they were first getting Bozeman off the ground (like assembling and finishing guitars which had parts made in Japan), so anything is possible. TommyK
It has the unbraced back they toyed with for some time. The back has a profound arch.
