ksdaddy
Just cruising ebay and hit on it. They had just listed it and I jumped. This "almost" makes up for the Heritage Golden Eagle someone listed for $1500 buy-it-now and I missed it by a nanosecond. This is motivation to move even more unused stuff out the door, since I only had about $900 mad money. Had to put the blonde on the plastic but I'm betting I can pay it off before the first statement.

J-200 Koa
$1500 bucks.... cripes I couldn't pass it up. Now I know who beat me to that auction. Glad it went to a good home. To ease my sorrow I ended up buying two SJ-200s on eBay last Saturday quite by odd circumstance. I'll know Thursday if they are as nice as the one ksdaddy bought. jchabalk
very nice KSdaddy, do you have the guitar yet? I notice that it's got what looks like an appropriate amount of saddle too, something i don't really see all that much on the 4-ribbon brides. Just wondering how the action is? ksdaddy
Just bought it today. I probably won't see it until the middle of next week. The saddle looks wicked tall. They stated it was a poor fit and would need to be replaced. I have some bone blanks. Funny coincidence, when I took delivery of my '89 J200 5 years ago a corner of the bridge had lifted and the saddle was too thin and leaning! ksdaddy
It came in today. Man.... I am all too familiar with new guitar euphoria and I hope this never wears off. Ths thing is an animal. Yes, the corners of the bridge are lifting, which will be dealt with this weekend. I will also go inside and investigate the pickup issue. I don't want a pickup at all anyway, so I will gut it. As to the saddle leaning, I may just put a shim in front of it until I'm in the mood to make one from scratch. I measured the strings and they appear to be something like 12-58 according to my calipers. No idea as to the brand. I wish I knew because they are scary good. The thing came all tuned up (dumb) and I pulled it out of the cold box (dumb) and began playing. Gawd, this thing makes me feel ALIVE. It sounds like you would HOPE a good J200 would sound. That statement means a lot. It has a lot of pick scratches but I don't care. I hope I scratch the lacquer right off the top. The neck has no relief so it has some buzzes. I will tend to that as well. One of the gold tuners has been replaced with a chrome one. I will post a want ad in the trading post, as I know some people have swapped out their Gotohs(?) with other tuners....maybe someone has one good gold one they'd sell. If not, I'll just buy a new set I guess. It's almost saying, BEAT me with that pick. C'mon, I want to be beaten. NOW, big boy. Whip me, beat me, make me write bad checks! Compare/contrast of the 1989 (sunburst) to the 2000 (blonde): The 89 has multiple layers of binding on the headstock. The 00 has single layer. The 89's nut is wide, 1-3/4 or so. The 00 is more "Gibson normal". It is overall more slender and feels like a Les Paul. The pickguards are different, and I knew/expected that. The bridges are different, ditto. The 89s neck is all maple. The 00 has a contrasting stripe down the middle. The 89 is sycamore (European Maple) with a plain grain. The 00 is Eastern Maple and is flamed right to s____. Tone wise, the 89 is full and thick, almost a soothing tone. The 00 is brighter and maybe deeper too, and more 'in your face' It sustains forever. I'm a spoiled brat. And now I have a chubby big-mouthed blonde moving in with me. How you like yo' eggs, baybeh??

bobouz
2000 must have been a good year. I purchased my '00 J100xtra new in early '01. It is the lightest Jumbo bodied Gibson I've ever picked up, and the notes just pop off it. This version of the J100 came with a fully visible abalone rosette (which I find very attractive), maple body, and Fishman pickup.
